PC in general is becoming more expensive than rent money.
So, I have a very outdated graphics card, the 1050 TI, and now they're discontinuing the GTX cards. I feel like gaming in general is just getting worse and even more expensive. The new Indiana Jones game, is just a really expensive movie with one button pressing. Heck, you can't even run it on GTX cards now. DLSS is stupid and so is Ray Tracing, well I don't understand it and I don't have a 8K TV so that's dumb and pointless. I personally feel like gaming industry is slowly dying. I've been so bored lately of video games, i don't even know what good games exist anymore. I just am disappointed on PC. Kinda of thinking of going back to console.

Don't complain. Back in mid 90's the latest and greatest BY computer with motherboard, PSU, case, CPU, RAM, AGP video, sound card, HD, CD, CRT monitor, keyboard and mouse would cost you around $3000. And after installing the latest and greatest WinNT or W95 you'd end up with BSOD after BSOD :-))
Agp graphics card era pcs were not 3k. Not even close
Depends on what ya built. When Athlon 64 FX came out, ya looking at $800-$1000 USD for it. Add on the higher tier mobo over Nforce chipset and ya looking at well over $200, and then memory pricing decided if ya went ECC or non ECC motherboard(Socket 940 or 939). That was a large chunk of money there.

I could go on, but with GPU, CPU, Mobo, Ram, Case etc? Well over $3000 back in the day of AGP. That's not including Sound Card etc.

Now, most have crappy cpu's and motherboards, ran 2GB of memory instead of 4GB. Most didn't use XP 64 like I did either and later swapped to Vista 64, so they didn't have 8GB of memory.

But yes, can easily get $3000, sometimes triple that if an enthusiast.

Going for bleeding new flagship always cost an ARM & a LEG.

While OS were not stable with too much conflict back in the day, things gotten WAY better during 2001, and kept getting better as time went forward for stability, and compatibility, due to having standards & guidelines which solve a lot of the problems.

Linux were having a lot of in-fight for many years with standards & guidelines as everyone want to be different and unique to setting their view what standards & guidelines should be plus it requires people to invest, and put time into which most were not into doing for quite some time, until years later, like right now it WAY better than they were back in the day when they got GUI going lol.

Well, you could use 256MB and 512MB, but that's on budget systems like one ya posted. I used AutoCAD quite a bit, so 512MB wasn't going to cut it. Even gaming wasn't going to cut it past 2001. Though do remember the Duron making Intel sweat due to how cheap it was compared to a P3.

Once we got into P4 era and Athlon era though, prices just increased and in a couple of years, those older machines were not running games well at all.

I had a friend that was an architect at the time and he had a 2 physical cpu set up in 1998/9 it wasn't 3k even then.

Ah, you're thinking Windows 98 to Windows 2000 era PC hardware. I'm thinking when AGP boomed in XP era. I was wondering why you mentioned Duran era CPU's.

And the CPU's mattered back then, a lot more than now for cost and what type.

Speaking of dual cpu mobos, remember when Skulltrail came out? Oh boy, that board aged so poorly compared to the new 6-core+ cpus or HEDT CPUs. Even SLi vs one single strong gpu now. things really have changed significantly.

They are speaking way older than that, if dual CPU motherobards in 1998. You weren't even running Windows then, but Unix since Windows 98 didn't support SMP.

When the PS5 launched, it was so powerful they could fire the optimization experts, add upscaling, some TAA in there, and call it a day.

Save yourself some money and don't buy these unoptimized games.

Half true. The PS3 was indeed powerfull..but the architecture was kinda bonkers so it took a lot of work to actually bring out that power.

Yes, DLSS is stupid. No, Ray Tracing is not stupid.

Blame all of the wasteful people in America who just throw money at things no matter how much the companies jack the prices up. That's why the GPU market is a dumpster-fire now. Wasteful Americans with no money sense.

I wish I could work, but hmm, being disabled and can never drive or hardly see is somehow not a good mix bro.. Nice attempt though.

just be smart games from 2015-2020 work great there are 100's of quality titles that work very well with older pc's on wifi, just try some and stop seeking to play game new on your outdated pc

And will probably get worse.

Looks like optimization is not important anymore, they just ask the players to buy more RAM, storage, etc because it's "cheap".
