Steam resets download progress for no reason at all.
A week ago, I was downloading a 30GB update for Euro Truck Simulator 2. I managed to download to 15GB out of 30GB, then I had to pause it and powered off my machine. This morning I decided to continue the update since I finally got my bandwidth recharged. But I noticed that my progress had been reset to 0, this really pisses me off since I had wasted my precious and limited bandwidth. So I went ahead and downloaded 2GB. But I had to pause the download and noticed that the download had reset again. I have searched up the issue but couldn't find the solution (I had tried everything but it did a total of nothing). So I took matters into my own hands and tried looking through the files to see what is going on. I actually found out that the .patch files inside the /downloading folders were being replaced.

How can I solve this issue, I can't keep on wasting money on bandwidth just because of steam's stupidity.

you need to download all at once, there is no pause and resume download feature. once you close out steam and turn off your pc, the previously dl session is incomplete and removed.

What are you talking about? I am not just talking about that, The issue is that I can't even pause without it resetting, I tested this: I had paused the download at 2GB without quitting out of steam, then unpaused it, this rewrote the .patch files and the .acf file, this caused them to restart, I have no idea why.

Seriously? That is pretty lame for a digital distribution system in this day and age, if you ask me.

that is known as "atomic commits"... either it carried on to completion or it is simply discarded as if it never were begun in the first place...

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Atomic_commit

There's essentially nothing in between...

It's done to mitigate an eventual corruption of data...

Nowadays you can download things from everywhere with resume and data does not get corrupted. So it means Steam tech is old?
