yearly steam game awards, "not balanced*"?
does anyone else feel like the rewards doesn't make quite as much sense?
while I dont fully believe there is a time limit, as some games can change a lot, more so as an service. but some that are re-created classics to be on a reward or fill the votes with "useless choices" that doesnt quite belong in the category and no way of saying "otherwise" or to vote for something else?

while I dont see it as fully rigged, some choices do become a bit rigged in getting votes for being the "only real choice". can see that if there is a lot more actions wanted in the voting process, there might become less votes overall? (if it causes more time needed to do the voting process)

If they're forgotten then they are no longer popular.. and if they are forgotten they also weren't particularly memorable.
wouldn't that be an assumption that people played those games?
There's no wrong category technically. IOf a game is in a category it's because a large number of people nominated it to that category..
yeah can be unsure how those are voted, but would assume played games can be voted into some other category? (like 2 game of the year but puts one in another category). sort of what I do too, but dont remember how the voting was this time as I was not here for it (the community vote before final votes). so I was just wondering how it would be if one had a little bit different choice at the final voting process.

but I guess nobody sees any "problems" with it.

Not different than assuming people didn't play those games.

Likely because people understand that "awards" are meaningless and are just marketing stuff.

Especially on Steam, they're merely there to drive extra engagement to the store during two sales events (Autumn for the nominations, Winter for the votes).

Also a possibility is that people don't care that much about what other people play, like and vote. And thusly don't have issues with games in categories other people think "don't belong". ;)

Not "rigged", just a popularity contest.
Even if you added specific categories like not released after a date, or remastered-only games; it's still a popularity contest.

No where does it say that you have to play the games to nominate or vorte. You can watch lets plays and twitch streams. read articles and reviews., etc

You don't have to necessarily experience something to appreciate it.

i didnt say that? was more about remembering something, ofc some feelings can be made by watching/reading etc. but you might get less time with it to remember and which year it came out. sure playing a game might not make too much of a difference in the grand scheme of things.

The nominations had suggestions but you could choose your own one freely, these are the result of the nominations?

Everything doesn't go my way is 'rigged'

People complained about every Community sale votes being 'rigged' (Because the game they wanted on sale didn't win the vote)... God forbid the possibility 'gamers' not being an heterogeneous block with a single mind.

I think people are confusing the badge levels with voting requirements. The two latter levels of the badge required for you to play and writed a review for a nominated game. It didn't mean you had to play and review a game to nominate them.

I always boot and update the review for a game I played years ago for that, long live Labor of Love. Afterwards I change the Labor of Love nomination to what I want it to be.

And what would be the point of rigging them?
You underestimate the pettiness of humans if you need to ask that question.
Deity 2024 年 12 月 26 日 下午 9:06
It's rigged because most of the games to vote for are trash especially in the "labor of love" category, BG3 shouldn't even be in that category when that game gets one update the whole of 2024 meanwhile a game like ESO isn't even nominated when that game been getting regular updates for a decade!
