Tell me, Gabe, when did Steam the Trustworthy abandon reason for greed?
It seems that Steam decided to take advice from the Grinch and gave us a big, bitter Christmas gift by removing the free cards from the Discovery Queue. Now, we are graced with the opportunity to spend even more to earn something as "valuable" as a virtual card.
Tell me, Steam, isn’t 30% on each game enough? Haven’t we spent enough feeding your coffers this year to deserve this small privilege, which doesn’t affect you in any way?
Are you trying to remind us that Epic Games is right there, one step away, eager to overtake you and begging for our credit card? The same Epic Games that, right now, is giving away free games to everyone. Are you, Steam, trying to show us that, once friendly and fair with your customers, you have now succumbed to greed?
A simple decision to stop distributing something as trivial as a few cards could, one day, turn a competitor once considered defeated into a colossus, because what history has taught us is that an empire doesn’t last forever; every great domain, no matter how strong, eventually succumbs to the weight of its own arrogance and decadence.
And if you agree with Steam’s decision to remove the cards from the Discovery Queue, keep your hands away from the keyboard. I won’t waste time arguing with a fool.

"Greed". Why did you NEED cards? Also, nice of you to admit on first post that you will not take any arguments that don't align with yours. Very open to discussions.
It's a digital card.

Chill.

Its removing incentive for me. Theyll be losing at minimum the cards I would have bought to round the winter card sets out.

Its hardly a catastrophe but it does remove some incentive to interact, like why bother with the discovery queue.

Uhhh... To discover GAMES? Does anyone remember that the purpose of steam is to be a game store or was that forgotten? Its main gimmick was never to be cards.

It’s not about needing the cards, but rather their symbolic value within the platform and the way Steam has built an engagement system over the years. When they remove this free benefit, it’s not just the access to a card that’s lost, but also the incentive to interact within the community among users, both those who spent money and those who haven’t bought anything. As for the debate, I simply don’t see much point in wasting energy on someone more concerned with being called a fool than giving me a single, good, plausible reason for removing the free cards from the Discovery Queue.

Spoke the hypocrite with a customized profile and over 90 badges on their account. Now, retire to your insignificance. Don’t expect any more responses from me.

I mean, steam is trying to sell games, not just show you them. So if you want cards, you buy games. Sounds plausible and reasonable to me. They still give you stickers for FREE. And my level is higher than yours, proving I do make badges...

It's just... As much as I could enjoy a badge for winter sale, I got stickers, I got replay badge for free. I got season FOX badge for free (If not points). Calling steam greedy over digital cards is a little odd considering what free art they're giving us...

Yes? And while you were busy doubleposting to insult me, you could have been patient for a reasonable reply but your impulsivity got the best of you. You're not open to discussions, as you've already admitted in your opening post. Too bad...

Exactly, it was really nice to trade duplicate cards with friends or sell them on the market to get new ones until you earned the badge. Honestly, I don't see any fair reason for removing the cards from the discovery queue. It's a shame:steamfacepalm:

Why on earth would they remove the free cards? It was the main way to get them.

Because steam is a game store, not a badge store. People didn't do discovery to discover the games but to get cards. It goes against the idea of >game discovery<.

Ah yes, because focusing only on the game store makes a platform so successful ... like Orign, Ubisoft and Epic Store. All these rudimentary game stores combined can't even reach 25% market share!

ALL I'm saying is explaining why Steam did that. One can be disappointed while still seeing the reasonable side of things. If the badge was there, I'd still have made it but since it's not there anymore, I see no reasons to cry over spilled milk...

You CAN however let steam know that you still liked the badges but it's their decision at the end and honestly not the end of the world. They could have done much worse. I do not find calling them greedy over digital cards being very rational...

I read that as Omni-Man talking to his son Mark about not having even a fraction of their power...

Revenue share Steam:

https://steamcommunity.com/groups/steamworks/announcements/detail/1697191267930157838

When a game makes over $10 million on Steam, the revenue share for that application will adjust to 75%/25% on earnings beyond $10M. At $50 million, the revenue share will adjust to 80%/20% on earnings beyond $50M. Revenue includes game packages, DLC, in-game sales, and Community Marketplace game fees. Our hope is this change will reward the positive network effects generated by developers of big games, further aligning their interests with Steam and the community.

Ah! Yes the age old "Valve is greedy BUT let me keep my money by getting free games on Epic and actually not being a customer on their store by not spending any of my money on their store".

The vast majority of the older sale cards sold for only $0.03 on the Market.

Right now, they are selling for at least 5x that amount.

Seems like Valve made the best choice, getting a larger cut of each sale and the sellers getting more per sale by making them more scarce.
