Tell me, Gabe, when did Steam the Trustworthy abandon reason for greed?
It seems that Steam decided to take advice from the Grinch and gave us a big, bitter Christmas gift by removing the free cards from the Discovery Queue. Now, we are graced with the opportunity to spend even more to earn something as "valuable" as a virtual card.
Tell me, Steam, isn’t 30% on each game enough? Haven’t we spent enough feeding your coffers this year to deserve this small privilege, which doesn’t affect you in any way?
Are you trying to remind us that Epic Games is right there, one step away, eager to overtake you and begging for our credit card? The same Epic Games that, right now, is giving away free games to everyone. Are you, Steam, trying to show us that, once friendly and fair with your customers, you have now succumbed to greed?
A simple decision to stop distributing something as trivial as a few cards could, one day, turn a competitor once considered defeated into a colossus, because what history has taught us is that an empire doesn’t last forever; every great domain, no matter how strong, eventually succumbs to the weight of its own arrogance and decadence.
And if you agree with Steam’s decision to remove the cards from the Discovery Queue, keep your hands away from the keyboard. I won’t waste time arguing with a fool.

valve has been going on a steady downwards spiral in the last little while, its time to move on to something else for pc gaming, GOG is one of the best out there, mods actually work with their versions of games
Problem with GOG remains their small catalog. Same with Epic. Becuase of that, they're not real competitors.

Problem with GoG is that many devs are scared ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ of selling DRM free games, forgetting that piracy isn't the boogeyman they think it is. Piracy can even help boost sales in some cases. And no. I'm NOT saying "Piracy is good". Devs deserve their money. I'm saying "piracy is unstopabble so stop trying to screw up people who'll pay for your games".

But many executives are pearl clutchers who want to treat all costumers as criminals.
Another issue is that Steam flat out told many devs to INCREASE their prices in poorer regions just because some people were using VPNs. So, Brazil got shafted with the loss of regional pricing for most big devs all because steam would rather punish other countries than actually fight VPNs.
Feel free to quit steam
We won't cry

Mods work with most steam games too? I haven't seen any downward spiral and GOG doesn't have many of the releases.

Yeah, it's MS Store/Game Pass versions that have more issues with mods, as far as I was aware.

"Betrayal of the consumer" over an iten worth pennies in Store credit?
Doing the right thing doesn't have a monetary cost tied to it. The fact Valve choose to do the wrong thing speaks for itself. The inherent value of the card is inconsequential to the gesture the free card represents.
They don't even have to give cards with purchases...... that itself is a gesture. Same thing with booster packs. They don't have to make them drop every time someone crafts a badge, but they do.

In a nutshell, cards --- badges --- higher Steam level ---- cards drop faster

Soooooo. . . something completely meaningless, to make something completely meaningless happen more?

You're getting it... the biggest game on Steam.... is your profile.

I mean I doubt he's a Steam employee so... no? Also... you are not going to successfuly bring a class action case over not getting free steam trading cards.

How do you know what people used the system for? The discovery is right there for you to use. It gives stickers.

You can also discover games on your own for fun and see if you find anything appealing. They did not remove that. Why do we NEED rewards for everything?

How do you know? people are just making assumptions without proof. Free stickers... who uses the stickers anyways? I don't.

Getting a free card for your time checking out the Discovery Queue was a nice/fair trade. I don't bother with the Discovery Queue otherwise. As I said, I don't care for stickers and don't use them (They don't even let you use stickers on your profile like you can with emotes...)

Who said anything about "Need" ? they should have just left the Discovery Queue the way it was. It had cards for more than a year, why stop now? ah, to make people buy games for them or buy the cards from the shop, got it.

Freebies eventually stop.
It was never a reward, it was a carrot.

Why? What makes people entitled to get the free items of their choosing?

It would seem you will have long wait until the lesson is learned.

I'm actually buying less than planned because I'm uncertain to make a badge on purchases alone.

...and I'm not voting in the game awards because I don't want to be stuck with stickers bloating my inventory.

Here's a suggestion...

...let voting earn a badge and let purchases level it up with cards.
