How do people have so many steam points?
So I'm quite new to steam and I've been checking out all the stuff this platform has and what caught my attention was steam points. I know the basic way to get points is by buying games. The points shop gets seasonal sale based themed items and they seem very expensive considering how much you have to spend on games but I've seen people buy them and people flexing hundreds of thousands and even millions of steam points. How do these people even get that many points? Do they really buy that many games? It doesn't seem possible to complete them in a lifetime. I've also seen profile awards but it doesn't seem like you would get that many points from those considering you only get a third of the points of the awards' cost... :cozyslippers2024:

Our contributions to the Steam community, Game discussions helping out players in many discussions.
My Artwork screenshots stuff like that has given many many awards to me from the public which includes points.
Three times a year like right now contributing with Steam awards.
There is lots of other ways to make yourself available for awards, other than buying games.
I currently have around 120.000 points. But over many years :)

Just comment in steam forums. You won't believe how many people will give you an award one way or the other. Especially the ones that don't agree with you. And I am not talking about farmers but people that think anything they disagree with gets a clown face. I find it funny they are rewarding you because they hate what you said so much.

I have 75,000 points and I would say 90% of them are from just normal forum posts like this.

be an attention seeker, post stupid and baiting topics on the discussion thread, be one of the first reviewer of the game that just got released with hardly any interest in it and time thrown at it.

Farming clowns, making obscure posts that are hilariously disruptive but don't break guidelines, click bating, using multiple accounts to bump their post for maximum traction and retention, creating systems on layered systems of manipulation.

Or you can just buy things.

Can also make helpful posts. There's positive awards, too, not just clowns.

(awards also get put on reviews & screenshots)

Anyway, according to the points shop, I've got ~205k points right now. 159k of them from awards, apparently. (have a hard time believing that. where the heck did they all come from)

Yup!

I've spent nearly that much just today on the new stuff they added.

Buy games, buy steam decks, get community awards.

Be a troll on forums or post unpopular opinions = get free jesters = free points.

Seems to be the easier way because there’s always someone taking the bait.

Jesters are lame. Extra Helpful is where it's at.

Oh, I had no idea screenshots could get you steam points. I saw some posts gets awarded in the help and tips discussion and most of them were something random and unuseful like open and closing the game lol, thanks for the response btw :INSIDE_chick:

Yeah lol, awarding people with points as a form of showing disagreement is quite ironic

Hmmm that's a interesting strategy, so far I've seen useless guides and "hot takes" being used as a way to get steam points. Didn't know reviews also get awards, thanks for the response :grissing:

Without any context, this seems like an elaborate plan to manipulate the masses instead of farming steam points :cozyslippers2024:
You should try politics...
