In Defense of Old Gamers

Yes gentleman we who grew up in the 80s are officially old gamers. As a result we are probably also somewhat annoying to younger gamers as we complain too much about the current state gaming. As for me ... Guilty as charged!

My guess is that you youngsters probably wonder if we dislike gaming so much these days why do we stick around, alright I'll give you three reasons though there certainly are many:

1. We are the first hardcore gaming generation - Gen X. We started it, evolved it, and revolutionized gaming so we take pride in it.

2. Our kids (who are getting older themselves) keep us exposed, engaged, and involved in gaming; who do you think has the money to purchase and buy all the latest hardware tech and gizmos (looking at you Steam Deck) we do!!

3. Habit, it's embedded in our DNA, we were privileged to see and experience every console and PC generation so far. We bought, played, loaned, traded, and collected every game when it was still fresh and new; from Space Invaders to Cyberpunk which I'm assuming is the most technically advanced game today.

So with that said it's kind of hard to stop doing something you've been doing your whole life but I do believe it's winding down for Gen X, not from lack of interest but because those big generational leaps in gameplay and design don't seem to be happening anymore. What comes next has been mostly the same.

If anyone young or "old"...hmmm let's say wise, wants to contribute to this topic have at it!

Since you're using the word "wise", I would say at this age and experience, an actual wise man will never talk from the position of his egoism and attachment.
As a wise old gamer you should be such a person that new gamers should be inspired from by looking at your stuff, things you do and say. With the vast experience and refined taste for games.

Being a grumpy old man who hate everything about today's gaming is not cool at all.

If you can't stand new games (like me), the retro gaming is growing more and more popular. RetroArch on Steam, Indie games, and people experimenting with arcade cabinets and other retro gaming hardware at home. It's an exciting area if you jump into it.

But you decided that the word "old" is more important than "gamer". Asking for respect instead of earning it. No offence, but grow up, dude.

To me you're taking the thread to personal, the one thing I dont do is criticize or attack individual posters, I just focus on the concept, the thing at the center of the discussion, in this case "next gen technology" and what we think of it as "wise" gamers?

That's a You problem m8. And there are enough filters.. You can find a curator that matches your tastes and just buy the stuff they list. No need to look at the store at all.

The problem with gaming today is early access/ games that are released broken and fixed later/games that are "updated" for years after release...... and DLC.

Oh for the days of "going gold" with almost no bugs... an actual finished product.

The problem is people not reading what they're buying and then expecting something else.

And it seems there's now another added bonus to the Big Blue Warning as can be found in the BBW on this game below. It seems like Steam is adding more warnings about a game if it hasn't had any updates in a while. Still, folks never read what they bought in the first place so another line of text even though it stands out is hardly going to do anything for people being ignorant.

Most people do not read the Big Blue Warning and that is the "biggest problem" with Early Access games. It is not the games themselves because if you know what you're buying, you know what you're getting.

I said it was several related things, that all have the same theme. I'm sorry you didn't understand the theme of the post, but instead of asking for elaboration because you didn't understand, you figured you'd assume that an argument was made that you could ridicule because you wanted above all, to ridicule, rather than understand.
