"Backup Game Files" issue
When the progress bar has finished, it just stay there, doesn't turn into the "backup complete" dialogue box so you have to click x to close it and then wonder if your backup is corrupted or not. Anyone got this issue?

the backup feature is pretty bad, you can make your own backups by copying the files yourself, you just need the game folder and the appdata file

I know. That doesn't answer the question though.

It really depends. There are other ways. For me, I have a spare computer that I turned into a server. And downloaded and mirrored my gaming pc with steam. And it's all automatically.

Steam has a feature transfer from pc. All I do is install steam on both pc.

Hope that helps in deciding what to do

Same here. Worked 1 week ago. Had although problems with restore and had to download complete game again (Hogwarts Legacy)
I would use ImgBurn to make an ISO with the game's folder. No idea what backup is suppose to do that's so special that it takes forever.
The author of this thread has indicated that this post answers the original topic.

The special thing about it is that it basically creates a clean installer for you. Copying the game folder retains mods, runtime generated config files, corrupted files etc. Restoring a backup is equivalent of a clean download.

Another advantage is that a backup consists of a relatively small number of files. Some games might be hundreds of thousands of tiny files, and burning that to a disk is a terrible idea. Seek times on optical drives are abysmal.

I tested it. Files look complete, but restore fails. So it is unusable.

That's unfortunate. I briefly test it again with Desktop Dungeons and it restores just fine, probably because it's a small game (~300mb)?.... doubt it. Currently don't have the patience to test on large games.
was googling and ended up here, same symptoms back ups fails miserably

An ISO is a single file. I wasn't thinking of burning it to a disc. Just storing the ISO on a HDD or SSD.
Game saves where easy backup with game systems transfer game save from system to usb there’s your back up so many steps with valve no game save sharing
