My friend got a community ban a couple of days ago for something he commented on a friend's profile and got a ban till 2038, whats the appeal process and what are the odds of getting unbanned?

Afaik 2038 is a place holder and it's permanent. For them to do a ban like that usually means he has had quite a few community bans before

Actually, its his first community ban ever, and probably his last since he officially gave up on steam, steam support just closes his support tickets almost instantly and wont even let him disable the account.

Then that sounds like a compromised account, not a community ban. What makes him think he is community banned? I'd post the link to his account here and we can tell you immediately if he is community banned or not

2038? For what?

This is why we need the duty process for Steam!

Contact support that's the only thing your friend can do. Chances of getting banned, depends on what that person did, if it's a mistake it'll get reversed.

That'll do it, yeah.

Your friend needs to use the link within the account alert to contact support.

The moderators are very overzealous and will give out warnings and bans for the most petty reasons.

The chance of reversing false ban is nonexistent. Support is lost cause, its been told many times.
They use AI to moderate the forum and comments.

Ask support if they could remove it.

Facts on facts.

They have a copy-paste reply to deny the appeal as well as threatening to cut you off from Support.
Appeals are probably thrown back into the moderator queue where overworked moderators have about 4 seconds to act on each report.

It could just be that moderators have too little time to make a decision.

That's what that gray italicized text you sometimes see when the forum is busy is about. If it stays there even after the processing finishes (usually on scam stuff but occasionally false positives), that means the computer program reported the post. It doesn't have the ability to delete posts on its own, and it definitely can't issue community-wide bans.
