I clicked on the link in the chat, but then didn't click on accept and closed the window. Should I be worried?

You don't have to be worried if you didn't enter your login details.

This has been a going on since the Deadlock playtest. Playtest invites are never sent through chat messages.

I have a question!

Last year, during the Deadlock playtest, people were also inviting each other. Were these invites sent through chat?
The Deadlock invites require users to be on each others friends list and then the person with access invites them in-game https://i.redd.it/yd0qz5rb7gld1.png and they receive a pop-up in the client that looks like this https://pbs.twimg.com/media/GVB3203WEAArOIF.jpg:large

A typical scammer message in chat appears like this https://imgur.com/a/Aar7aet

Thanks .
Lost about $20k inventory to this scam :( friend sent playtest link (why introduce easy scamable playtests), clicked on it, looked legit, two days later inventory emptied and balamce emptied... pissed @ steam for allowing this bullcrap, somehow my authenticator was switched to a phone in st petersburg russia ... wtf my credit card stops transactions if its a couple of states over, how come steam allows this crap. And then allowing trades for several thousand dollars of inventory for nothing .... how easy would it be for steam to flag the transaction and at least put it on hold... but nope nothing ...... thanks steam

Here the thing there always scammers going out of their way to make anything, and everything look legit to scam people. This kind of scam been going on for decades where people losing their emails, accounts, and all kinds of things to scammers, the real problem is when people act 1st before thinking, or else none of this would be happening, you wouldn't be here either yet here we are.

The problem is that once Scammer get access to your account on their device they try to remove everything, or sit on your account to do scam later like adding new scam friend, trick you to trade, and repeat scam to all your friends.
Got this Link today...DNS Records for n e x t p l a y t e s t . c o m already deleted? Was not possible to view content. How did the Site look? Never login on those sites.... :skul:

I fell for this and clicked that link. They blocked everyone in my friendlist and send the same message to some of my friends. I dont know how did they get to my account with trust factor activated. I changed my password, checked authorized devices and scan my pc with windows defender. What was their main target with this? Am i safe now? I really need some explanation.

Because they fall for the same thing. The hijacker turns around and uses their account to spam the links to their friends and on and on...

Doesn't matter, my oldest friend could send me a completely innocent looking link through chat and I would not click it and would most likely promptly remove & block the friend. At the end of the day everyone is a stranger on the internet so act accordingly and don't be such an easy target.

It's literally not a skill or talent to keep oneself from falling for stupid scams on Steam or the internet in general.

Also do yourself a favor and stop believing that it's your special day to get a free blessing of a gift card or new game playtest or rare knife skin or whatever else you people fall for.

Steam Gaurd is irrelevant for these types of phishing links.

You are right. I shouldnt have clicked on that. It was obvious. I guess they are searching for the ones without steam guard. I am so glad my account is linked to my phone.
