As if there are not several other good games from many other countries coming out every year.
And i emphasize the word "GOOD".
There were not only good games but also GREAT games from several different developers, in 2024. But they didn't get the hype because they were NOT from a particular country where Steam should have a specific version to be allowed.
Yeah, well, you know, that's just, like, your opinion, man.
Yes. It is totally fine that a Chinese title won GOTY. Even if you personally didn't like it as much as other entries. If you don't like that you're always free to host the ☎need4naiim☎ Game Awards and announce whatever game you want as the winner. A Chinese game won the Steam awards once. One time. Come back and say something when it happens multiple years in a row and I MAY acknowledge there is a problem. But as it stands there is none. Because it happened once, with a game that legit deserved it.
And a lot of other people's too, very many of them living in China
. . . which mean basically nothing.
Yeah, I'm totally ok with stupid internet popularity contest awards being driven by popularity. Just like the "goty" winners every year have been.
(and no, I haven't played Wukong. No interest in it, the whole "souls-like" genre does nothing for me.)
Yeah, I don't think we're going to establish some kind of "game of the year electoral college". I don't think that's necessary or useful.
- if you enjoy a game, it winning or not winning won't change that.
- if you don't want to play a game, it winning an award isn't going to change that either.
and most important
- if you like a game, and it wins an award? That doesn't make you cooler. Nor does it justify the time/$ you spend on the game.
Because these two countries have the same default Steam version available in their countries.
UNLIKE some other. (out of 200+ countries, just ONE of them requires a different Steam version)
It's pretty funny.
Is the Steam version China is using from Steam? Yes? Then it's still a part of the Steam awards.
