Absolutely nothing is holding my interest anymore. Why? What happened to gaming?
For years I have been a gamer. I have spent a lot of time in survival games like DayZ and Rust. FPS games like Killing Floor 1/2.

I played MMO's for a short while, but now?

I am unable to find anything to play that really grabs my interest.

Where is the fresh new title that everyone is hungering for? I know I am starving for something new.

Gaming is in an age of abundance
Nah, that was the PS2 era. Lots of games, tons of experimentation. Etc.

The PS2 is still the best selling console of all time too.

Two things can be true. PS2 is the best selling console, but abundance of games isn’t mutually exclusive to console sales.

Same with me OP.

I actually took a 6 year break (2014-2020) because I got sick of what was out there, and now I am slowly losing interest again.

Truth be told, I am getting more enjoyment out of my older games (mid 2000s and before) than anything new, with few exceptions.

I recently played Turok and had a blast, and the game reminded me of just how bland, unimaginative, and commercial gaming has become.
Also been playing Half-Life Opposing force, older C&C games, FEAR, STALKER Clear Sky and CoP, Quake, Crysis 1 and 2, and Interstate 76.

The problem with my older games though, is that I know them inside out, forwards and backwards.

You are way too fixated in wanting to play something that you can't appreciate anything that you play. It's better to spend some time away from gaming or try to put less pressure on yourself when you want to play games.:summercat2023:

Real talk. You should talk to your doctor about whether you have depression. It sneaks up on you slowly by sucking the life out of things you enjoy.

Alternatively it could be that capitalism has turned every single industry into a race to deliver the lowest quality product that will still get bought by enough people to maximise sharegolder value.

Or both. It's probably both.
I agree with everything in this comment. Especially gotta watch out for the effects of depression, so damn sneaky and hard to recognize, can ruin your life.

But anyways, recommended games:

Terraria
Skyrim
*Gems of War
Resident Evil 2 (remake)
Fallout New Vegas
7 Days to Die
*Warframe
Stardew Valley
Mount and Blade 1 & 2
Siralim Ultimate
Disgaea 5
Yakuza (whole series is great)
Age of Empires 2
Sim City 4
Baldur's Gate 1, 2, and 3
Dungeon Defenders 1 & 2
Chrono Trigger
**Might and Magic 6, 7, and 8
**Earthbound (SNES)

I dunno if that helps at all. I tried to make a solid list with various genres of games so you have lots to pick through. Terraria, Skyrim, and New Vegas are all great with mods if you're into modding games.

*Gems of War and Warframe are both free to play.
**Not available on Steam

Good luck!

More often than not it's not gaming but yourself. We all have highs and lows and lose interest in things. If gaming isn't fulfilling you it's OK to take some time off. I've done it in the past.

I have played and loved most of those games, even Earthbound! I played Mother 1 & 2

MMO games have been in decline for some time now. Maybe one day when high-end VR or deep-dive comes to be.

Elon save us!

Many games don't take risk anymore meaning they are generic at some point, now with the woke trend it's getting worse.

Plenty of new games get released so be sure to check daily small indie games, you'll probably find an unknow gem

I don't thing either of those will make grinding mobs for drops any more interesting.
The problem with MMOI's is basically the Multiplayer part. You're basically locked out of vast swathes of content if you don't have a party to roll with which mmeans you wind up playing the game in the community prescribed manner rather than exoploring fun new ways to do things.

There's a reason why the decline of MMO's started around the same time Large scale Open world games like FO3,Oblivion, etc, started becoming more common. Those games were better at satisfying the same itches that MMO's did without the need to have a party. which mean you could fool around and explore YOUR way.

Where is the fresh new title that everyone is hungering for? I know I am starving for something new.

That is why I stick with the games that I know I will get enjoyment from.

Bethesda, Bioware, and Atlus games are at the top of that list.

I just bought Borderlands again after owning it on the PS3 back in the day, For some reason I just prefer playing older games I know I will get enjoyment out of.

All this woke crap has ruined games for me post 2020 to be honest. I don't need things like that forced on me. If it is a part of the game fine. If they are changing a game for a certain group of people over the people who have been gaming for decades then they can go ♥♥♥♥ themselves.

I stopped playing MMOs a long time ago. That sucks considering how much I enjoyed a few of them. Everquest and Dark Age of Camelot rocked. I played WoW until I got tired of certain people in guilds needing to be the center of attention instead of playing it like a team game.

i say all this speaking individually because I expect others will have differing opinions on it.

There are still some great games coming out. The problem is on both sides ... not just developers and publishers.

My interest simply lies with games I know I will still enjoy to this day for the most part. The others are the developers I trust to give me the games I know I will still love from them.

Lots of questions here.

-how many hours are you putting into gaming daily?
- are you starting too many games at once?
- have you tried different genres or playing with friends?
-are you forcing yourself to play out of habit even if you don't feel like it?
- is this your only hobby?

You gotta ask yourself more questions to get to the bottom of why you're feeling this way and why it bothers you. Could be intrinsic and extrinsic factors. And as gamers, I think we all reach this point at least once in our gaming lives.
