used the f word and got a profanity filter bypass warning.
So I used the f word and replaced the u with a *. basically filtering the word out myself. This now led to a warning of bypassing the profanity filter

that basically means, I am not supposed to censor any words myself, instead I just fully write them and let the profanity filter do the magic. Right?

Who issued the warning? Game hub moderator, game developer or Steam Support?

:nkCool:

it says I received the message from a forum moderator

That's the reason. The rules in their game hub don't like it.

If it were Support, they wouldn't even care. At most, they would just delete the post.

Where is that option?

Edit: never mind, I found it in store preferences.
Doesn't work everywhere unless you specifically change the filters never filtered words though.

Thanks, I wouldn't have figured this out on my own, lol.

The best way to approach it is to just change your approach to the words you use. Most of the words that get censored aren't really necessary in communication. If you feel the need to self-censor a word, perhaps that means it's a word you could do without or change to something that is less offensive.

is ♥♥♥♥ off really bad to be used in agame where npc's are allowed to call me scum? isn't it always the "universe" thats relevant to when and what we use the word? sure that is soething a regular algorithm cannot figure out. is the f word even worse than calling someone scum (which is offensice as well, yet not censored?) as a non native speaker I man not be able to differ these fine lines enough to understand why.

Don't self-censor.
This is the right answer. Just let the wordfilter do its work. If it's censored it'll be hearted out automatically.
Some people do like to censor filtered words like 'th*s'. Either as an effort in self censoring or because they don't want the word to turn into hearts and want to people actually 'read' what was being written. Mods may take that as an attempt to bypass the filter and act accordingly. Remember nowadays don't take context as well as they should.

Yes, because you're not talking to a soulless NPC. You're talking to other real people.

You don't get banned from the game, which is the product paid for, the forum is simply extra.

Sure you can, I've been banned from multiple paid for products for simply swearing and context in game, the last one I was banned from was Overwatch, where they banned me for calling a torbjon player a "Useless Turret ♥♥♥♥♥".

The metaphor equivalent is you buying a pair of shoes walking through a swamp and the manufacture turning up and taking the shoes back because they are unhappy at how you are making the shoes look to others.

Its literally, legal theft.

They are saying you can't get banned from the game for getting a ban from the steam forum for the game.

Also your example isn't even close to being true. When you buy a pair of shoes you are not agreeing to a contract stating that you will behave a certain way while wearing the shoes. Meanwhile, that is exactly what you're doing when you agree to an EULA. It's a legally binding contract that you agree to, so banning you from their public servers for breaking that contract is not theft at all. It's the consequences of your actions. :HappyMoonman:

I remember at a young age my brother and i were slick, in lieu of "♥♥♥♥" we'd use something such as "flunk". The lines "flunk you" were said by him to my dad and when he awoke several minutes later we decided to not do that. Pretty much that's what you did, the word is already censored but you took it upon yourself to circumvent that, in other words ♥♥♥♥♥♥ around and found out.

Archaic forum with an archaic philosophy. Will have to wait for the old ♥♥♥♥♥ at valve to die off and be replaced by people who actually understand things.

Bit ridiculous cuz often times I'm talking to people who are too stupid to understand properly worded English so I need to use strong words so that one neuron in their head can activate finally. Also when you reply to someone's post, it shows them what the unfiltered word is in their reply input box anyways.

Often times I'm on forums of games children have no business on anyways and adults shouldn't require safe spaces from profanity.

Feels like between the moderation and clown awards Steam bends over backwards to give idiots the best experience at the expense of everyone else

Yes, because the profanity filter will FULLY filter out the word. So if crab is against the filter it will show ♥♥♥♥, now if you do cr#b, then the person knows its a bad word and you bypassed the filter
