Why all new Steam games are so bad?
It's all boring woke crap that you can't even criticize because you get banned, no good stories and zero immersion, I haven't seen anything good to buy for months and I haven't even been interested when they give away games for $2. The most hyped games fall one after another like failures. Obviously they have accumulated a lot of money over the previous years, if this company was new it would have already gone bankrupt.

Pro tip: opt ouf of things making one unhappy. I know for a fact that buying into hype makes one unhappy so simply ignore hype. Same goes for culture wars. "Woke" my ass, simply stop caring about games offering you a pronoun selection and you'll be happier in life.
for 15 years the only thing ignoring the woke has done is made it worse and finally after nearly 15 years of a little bit worse it went so far that due to the sheer volume of reaction only now are things getting better.

if you dont like something op dont buy it period. its not even about the money as you get older and you realize you lost 10-15 years thats what youll find unforgiveable about it.

What IS wokeism? The dictionary isn't particularly helpful, and neither are people who use that word. They can't agree what that is among themselves.
It originally meant being aware of civil rights issues and the like.

The issue is that the modern version of these things have been commandeered by grifters looking to enrich themselves off of the backs of vulnerable persons.

Take Feminism for example. It used to be about equal rights and the right to vote for women, among other things.

Now look at the modern take on it. You have things like TERF, trans-exclusionary radical feminists, and rather than just looking to help women (all women) they feel the need to pull down and punish others. They are so anti-man, that they will even seek to harm women who were born men.

Additionally, there is a reason why the modern woke movement moved away from using the term "equality" to instead using the term "equity". Equality means equal rights and equal opportunities. Equity mean "equal outcomes." They can then use that to justify attacking and trying to pull down their target of ire.

Ah, that. I only heard of a couple of games where people complain about that. What, 10, 15 game names being circulated? Sounds like a woefully small number compared to games which are, for a lack of a better word, unaffected. Edit: and all of those are mainstream, would've flown completely under my radar if people didn't rage about them in these forums.

I don't care if you think it is a "woefully small number." When even 2 or 3 of the game series that I was a fan of and have been playing for years get cancelled (current game and all future games) because of this crap, I stop being quiet about it.

It happened to me too, but "woke" was not the reason.
Guilty Gear changed its gameplay drastically in Strive compared to Xrd and before.
Warhammer 40.000 Dawn of War III changed the core gameplay from I and II.
Command & Conquer 4: ditto.
Company of Heroes II is a pay-to-win mess, unlike the first game.
Torchlight III and Torchlight infinite ruined the franchise for me by becoming free-to-play but pay for extras.

It was easier to move on than I initially thought. Just found different franchises to enjoy.

RTSs were on their way out and someone came up with this weird idea of 'reinventing' the genre, making several devs to jump in the bandwagon... Offering something RTS players didn't really want.

But the thing people need to realise is the whole 'wokeness ruining games' argument is nothing but a gigantic 'post-hoc, ergo propter hoc' fallacy. Mostly driven by content creators searching to SEO their way to the top of the recommendation algorythms.

The games I am thinking of did not move on. They disappeared.

The devs wanted to make them. The players wanted to buy them. However, third parties pitched a ♥♥♥♥♥, so they got cancelled instead. In at least one example, the director even quit the company as a result.

Plus, even if you move on, the woke crowd just follows you and tries to get the next game cancelled too.

They tried to cancel Stellar Blade. They tried to cancel Black Myth Wukong. (Even throwing massive tantrums when it didn't work.) Meanwhile they were hyping up crap like Concord, which they didn't even buy themselves.

I hope more games like Concord flop, the studios get closed, and the employees get fired, whereas I wish all the luck to studios putting out games like BMW, SB, and Marvel Rivals. And hopefully, publishers will start to re-realize who their real paying audience is.

INB4: "Concord only flopped because Hero Shooters is an over-saturated market."

Concord's all time peak Steam player count: 697 (no, that is not a typo, it is really less than seven hundred, period)

Marvel Rivals's all time peak Steam player count: 480,990

All journeys to the land of Fantasia have to end. If people actually bothered to read "The never-ending story" by Michael Ende, they would not emotionally cling to products of fantasy meant for entertainment. But it's not you I need to tell that. It's there for others to read as well though.

Games do not get cancelled just 'because of woke'. You're being spoonfed a oversimplistic narrative with a convenient strawman guilty of everything that's wrong with the world. Mostly to keep you consuming more and more of the content the people driving the narrative

They tried to cancel BG3, They're trying to cancel Witcher 4 without even knowing how the game is. Black Myth Wukong is now bad because the CCP sent the whole population of china to vote it for GOTY.

You are getting overly emotional over pieces of entertainment. Frankly, I never cared about "woke" and never will. As long as it's a game I can enjoy, it can be as "woke" as it wants to. "Concord" was not one of them because it's a hero shooter. As for a different example, I'll go back to Guilty Gear Strive. I am not bothered by Bridget suddenly being trans nor Testament being non-binary. What drove ME away was the ludicrous touch-of-death combos in under 10 individually input commands.

Most of these so-called "woke" games aren't even bad because of what the rage-bait drama queens on Youtube are droning about. They're largely mediocre at best in terms of GAMEPLAY. And that's the main and most important aspect of every game that isn't a visual novel (and even that genre has a few exceptions, like "Path of the Midnight Sun", "Baldr Sky" or the "Sunrider" franchise). Concord didn't fail because of "something something woke", it failed because
1) it's a hero shooter with a premium price tag competing with FIVE free-to-play hero shooters which are already popular
2) it had a mandatory PSN requirement, immediately excluding over 170 countries as audience.
3) It offered nothing that the other, free to play, hero shooters didn't already offer.

I am not consuming anything, darlin'. It was straight from the director's month. The game had already been approved and would have shipped soon, and Sony pulled the approval at the 11th hour.

Then we have games on Steam that were told that they would be denied access to Steam unless they marked their games as adult only, despite only having basic fan service in them. Meanwhile, games like CyberPunk2077, which featured sex and full frontal nudity, were allowed on the store without similar restrictions.

So you are objectively wrong.

Nah, I am just voting with my wallet and enjoying the cathartic results when Studios like Firewalk Studios get shuttered. I never cared when the games that I wanted to play were being left alone.

Like I said before, I have no interest in BL or reverse harem games, but I also never once wished them ill. I know they have an audience. Me not being a part of that audience is fine.

However, when people (who will not even buy the game) demand that the games that I want to play be cancelled or changed (when they will not even buy the changed product), that I take issue with.

And for someone that allegedly doesn't care about it, you seem to comment on it an awful lot.

If you paid attention, you'd notice the nature of my frequent comments. I keep telling people that the "culture war" is pointless and pretty stupid.

As for a crowd "demanding" that games be cancelled, they have no power. People "demanded" that Stellar blade gets cancelled. Did it? No. Did Space Marine II get cancelled? No. Did "Wukong" get cancelled? No. Their yelling availed to nothing. But that goes both ways. Your and everyone else's yelling won't make whatever you call "woke" go away. Especially since there isn't a consensus on what IS "woke". I asked one user if they think that Street Fighter and Tekken are "woke" for including characters from all over the world and of both sexes, they replied "yes". And they're probably not alone in that sentiment. You replied with a short wall of text.

So all my comments are saying one thing: the "culture war" is pointless and stupid and yelling on forums and other social media avails to nothing.

They absolutely got the game cancelled. The fans wanted the game. The devs/publishers wanted to sell the game. Sony approved it. Then at the last second, Sony pulled approval because they thought the vocal minority were the majority. I speak up to prevent this from happening again.

Thing is, crap started hitting the fan after that, and massive flops started a blood bath among devs and studios jobs, so Sony and the like started to reassess. Even studios are admitting that 2024 was a dark time. They just refuse to accept the cause yet.

They still tried their hardest to get BMW cancelled. There are countless hit pieces published against it from slop like Kotaku to seemingly unrelated publications like Rolling Stone. It was made by a Chinese company, so they just ignored it and forged ahead instead.

There were plenty of people out there claiming Eve from Stellar Blade was an "unrealistic body with blowup doll like proportions"... you know, until they found out that she was scanned from a real woman and started playing damage control.

First. featuring some sex and or nudity don't automatically equate for an 'adult only' rating, you're cherrypicking there.

I take issue with organized groups using all that outrage industry to drive homophobic, transphobic, racist and all other kinds of bigoted and fascist narratives under the premise of wanting to 'save gaming' (Gaming doesn't need saving nor white knights crusading for it) from some sort of boogeyman.

I can walk around the entire game in CyP2077 fully naked, full frontal, that qualifies as frequent nudity. No amount on mental gymnastics can dispute that, and no mods are needed. Yet it got a free pass, while this other game did not.

I hope it works out to bring it to other platforms. If you can suggest good platforms, I'm open to it. ;)

I'll still try to appeal to Steam and see if I can remove the adult-only tag, but I'm not sure if I'll be able to. :(

So the game with permanent full frontal nudity without mods got a free pass, but the game with just fanservice was forced to use the adults only tag and get buried.
