how to find "free" games?

by this, i'm not being entitled.
what i mean is that once in a while, i will see like. . an rpgmaker game or something like Enderal appear in discovery queue and the game is listed as "free".
not "free to play" (that's a whole other bag of dix, with microtransactions and BS).

what i'm talking about is the 100% free games that are sometimes made available, such as this

so what i'm asking is if there's a search function to have steam locate all the "free" games like this and present them to me in a list, so i can look through them.

the front store page of steam has a button to search for "free games", but then it just shows you all the "free to play" mobile microtransaction games.

again, not being entitled, but i know there are a ton of actual 100% free games on steam, but they seem to be hidden, unless i get lucky and the dicovery queue algorithm pulls one and shows it to me.

is there an actual search function to be able to search for these and sort them into a list for me?

There are groups on Steam that are doing just that, tracking down the games on and off Steam and posting about it. Search through the groups and you'll find them.

I saw that sonic game on the front page, which is what inspired me to ask this, is if there's a way to find them all and have them in a list to browse through them.

and yeah, i considered that, maybe i need to find grouops or go on reddit.

another thing that i was hoping to discover is because once in a while, a game dev just puts one otf their non free games on 100% discounts for a short time.
like, i got one of the lara croft tomb raider games for free that way and i'm wondering if there's a way to find those when it happens.

Try using the filters to cut the less interesting ones, that's the best you can do, I guess.

Just subscribe to the main thread, and every time someone lists a new free game you'll get an alert. There's not as many free ones on Steam as there used to be 4-5 years ago, so most of the feed tends to be EPIC weeklies or GOG games.

okay thanks. i'd rather not have to go to epic games or GOG to get them. it's not hate, merely a preference. i wanted to able to just stay here and browse for what Steam is offering.

i found a couple of steam groups, like freegamesfinder, but yeah, they usually post links for Epic Games giveaways. Most games that show up as truly "free" seem to be like, low effort trch demos or just throwaway apps that nobody would buy anyway, lol.
