Windows 7 Support Ending - Refunding my Entire Library?
So let me get this straight, my games that run fine on Windows 7 I can no longer access past a certain point? If this is the case I will be talking to my bank and refunding my entire games library. I have zero interest in upgrading my hardware or Operating system.

Does this not violate consumer or anti-trust laws?

When I started using Steam I never agreed for them to control what hardware and operating system I can use, especially considering all of the games I play support Windows 7.

We would like answers sir, many others are trying to solve, in just "what" to expect. You cannot answer that question, and if you of anybody cannot, nobody knows.
The problem is not you not having the answers. It's you don't have the answers you want.

And again you've been told that countless times. Welcome to the side of the capitalism stick that sucks.

Messaggio originale di Crashed:
Valve has already given you their official answers, and they do not plan on deviating except for maybe the breaking patch occurring a bit later on.
The client isn't going to stop working on 00:00:00 of Jan 1st. As they're not going to push the patch on New Year's eve and there's no 'killswitch' (And never was for previous ends of OS support)

But Jan 2nd is tuesday...
UBI allows 7 user to mod their software. I have full respect for them for this! I hope Steam will be as cordial !
Will see in 79 days.. I just will not be here to help anymore.
I do not even play any of the games i have on steam- been so long.

Oh it absolutely is.

The solution is to comply with the client requirements. As the support drop notice states and as you've been told countless times.

We would like answers sir, many others are trying to solve, in just "what" to expect. You cannot answer that question, and if you of anybody cannot, nobody knows.

Therefore, being it has been established we are not going to upgrade, Mr Newell has to explain exactly what will happen.

These questions will continue. And if folks are going to get irate, that is their issue and problem to solve.

Therefore, until there are definitive answers, we are going to continue to probe this matter, indefinitely. Thank you for your submission.
Valve has told you exactly what you should expect. You have options. Some official, some not. These options have been going around and around and around these many threads for over half a year.

The unofficial options are, well, not official so NO Valve is not going to give you details about how to disconnect or bypass the client. They have told you exactly what you should expect if you don't use one of the official options, you should expect that you will not be able to run Steam to play your Steam games on Steam. That is "what" to expect.

Will Steam work for some amount of time after 2024? Possibly. Can you stay offline or otherwise keep Steam from updating? Probably, it's worked for previous versions. Can you modify Steam to bypass authentication? Not going to speculate as it's believed by most people to violate the ToS.

So there you go. I probably even missed some alternatives, but that's what to expect. Do what you will. I still recommend figuring out some way to have Windows 10 available, so you can keep playing those games you seem to like. (or linux if you're smart enough to stop drinking the MS koolaid, which I haven't been since the mid 90s.)
So I will not be the one loosing out. It will be all the people I help in the forums that are crying for help that will be at lose
I have every version of 10 - 11. I can careless. Even heavliy modified with all the very bad so called security removed ..... They both are still horible OS's. There is no point even commenting here as very few really understand - will preach about security updates ... just clueless people!

Thank you Mr Nova for trying to come out with answers. But as you can see, nothing but uncertainty.

We're WAITING, Mr Newell :steamfacepalm:
Mr. Newell, Mr. Newell! Only then will we be satisfied!
this so called "Newell" doesn't read the forums

I mean, that's the only response you're going to get. Steam is ending support for Windows 7. Any solution that isn't "upgrade" is not guaranteed to work.

You not liking those answers does not change the fact those are the answers you are going to get.
We're locking this thread as it has devolved into non-productive argument. Thanks for your understanding.
