I Don't Understand The Problem With The Expectation that Purcashed Games Should Be Playable Forever!
I have been gaming since my first console SNES then SEGA Megadrive, but a lot of my favourite JRPGs have been remade or remastered. Christ I I love the SNES and Megadrive emulators. So how is it so hard to make a few programming adjustments to allow us to play purchased Steam games. To play on updated OS - Windows 11 shouldn't be an unrealistic expectation. Pirated gaming has always existed I purchase games to support and to OWN the game forever. A little effort made by Steam or the creators to make it so all those games are always playable shouldn't be to much to ask...

GoG is great. But still a valid point if half my Steam library is unplayable. I have always been a retro gaming fan.

That is 100% up to the game devs/pubs to have their titles be completely DRM free.

Very few games on Steam become unplayable due to being on Steam.

I've played games that use DosBox built in more proof of the potential when effort is made.

Sure Steam is not 100% responsible but they are also a multi-billion dollar platform that can easily make the effort to support it's loyal customers.

Valve is not going to force devs/pubs to remove all forms of DRM on their titles.

Your willingness to spend Valve's money on your own values is quaint. Valve may have their own opinions about that though.

Hotsauce are you saying DRM prevents people that purchased a game from playing within a time frame of their choice?

Again, there are very few games that prevent people from playing them when the devs stop supporting them.

Sorry learning here. So why do games that previously worked on old OS stop working now have anything to do with DRM?

There are two issues, DRM and Backwards compatibility and they tie together, DRM requires you to have steam installed and running which means you need to use a compatible OS.

That being said older games sold on Steam not working are rare, again the usual question to those who claim old games don't work. Can you name the games that supposedly don't work on Windows 11?

Cause i'm the first person to have this issue... but for this purpose World In Conflict nice strategy game. worked 2 years ago. Now completely broken. Always the same recommended fixes and no love. High End PCs. Doesn't matter. Windows compatibility isn't the be all and end all solution clearly. Black & White 2 etc

Unpaid Modders can find ways to improve and keep older games functional. Freelancer Crossfire, C&C Generals Contra ie. but no one can keep paid games on platforms playable...
