Absolutely. The culture on the forums is pretty much the same with moderation controlling what can and can't be discussed. The rules don't apply if you are on a certain side of the political aisle and anyone who displays wrongthink is quickly censored. This kind of thing is common on forums and the like because moderation will always dictate the direction of the site. You get left-wingers to run things, they create an echo chamber. It also doesn't help that there are in fact some reddit mods who sign up to be steam mods. I can think of a few games like Deep Rock Galactic who's entire forum is run by reddit mods. So yeah the toxicity is inevitable when biased individuals make the rules.

Doesn't it vary by specific subredit/forum that you go to?
Same here. You can immediately sense toxicity in first page of CS forum. All the sweats go there.
I only visit reddit rarely, and to get info on particular games/etc, so I've not seen any real toxicity there. Guess I haven't visited the "right" (wrong) subreddits.

Steam's forums are a cesspool of clickbait, reposted misinformation videos, and political bigotry/trolling. Endless rightwing/MAGA propaganda and hatred. And incredibly strange persecution complexes, where the claim they're constantly oppressed, even though they mostly have free run to spew whatever they want.

Perhaps. I never used reddit though. It doesn't sell games, so I lack valid reasons to use it.
Also you can eventually get used to all these pointless ramblings people post here.
"I want an echo chamber that reflects MY opinions and not somebody else's"-thread...

There's OTHER people with different views and opinions everywhere

yes, full of off topic threads, like this one.
Nah, the toxicity of some political Subreddits is unreachable.

Why do you feel it is your job to dictate what is off topic to posters?

Aren't we supposeed to discuss the gaming client known as Steam in here?

This part of the forum is called "Steam Discussions"... it's not called "aNy pOLitIcS iN hERe pL0x"...

Sure, no politics. Take a look through all the threads currently trending. This one is about Steam Discussions themselves. Not about any of the buzzwords.
needs far stricter moderation before I would consider Steam to be non toxic.

It is funny that Reddit have better moderator than Steam. It is a wonder Valve have fail to do job of it.
Reddit is the worst place on the internet lol, as bad as certain steam forums can be, doesn't even come close.

You know, the biggest echo chamber on reddit is /r/conservative.

I don't know ResetEra gives Reddit a run for it's money in that regard. Of course both sites have crossover. Both left-wing echo chambers. Both delete users who don't agree with the hivemind. Both have moderators who run grooming discords, etc. Steam isn't quite as bad as Reddit but it's getting close.
