We Should Bring Movies Back To Steam
Steam needs to be the next amazon, all these movies like john wick and American psycho got delisted from steam and in my opinion we should bring them back, especially when they have trading cards like postal the movie. Would anyone else be genuinely interested to see movies come back to steam?

The amount of money wasn't worth it for Valve.

I'd hate to see Valve pull a Sony and pull bought movies from the internet. Perhaps they can partner with on of the free streaming services, although I'd doubt it would be worth their time.

I don't understand why they pulled them though? It still made some sort of money so why would they stop it? It's not like it's got it own servers which are too expensive to keep running

Let's remember that selling movies still means Steam needs the rights to do so. The reason that it didn't work is that it wasn't popular enough. Steam did try their hand and tested it but it failed so they decided to leave this business to other services.

In short, not enough income = lot of money lost. You could say "At least they tried". I didn't buy any myself because I didn't plan to watch anything on steam. I am here to buy and play games, not to watch anime and movies. I can do that elsewhere.

I wanted to buy the Neptunia anime.....
At least you can still get Postal: the movie from RWS' site

Can live without them. As Valve discovered, they make little money and have worse regional limitations than games.

The Neptunia anime wasn't the full series. It was the compilation "films" that mashed certain episodes together but lost chunks in the process.

If you want the full experience look for the US bluray (comes with DVD too) if you're outside Japan. I don't know if the specials were released outside Japan though, but even Steam didn't get all of those.

And also you can't use pretty much any feature Steam has beyond "downloading" on a movie.

Because it most likely wasn't even covering the costs of the server resources it was using.

From what I remember most of the movie selection was not even memorable. Super obscure stuff was being advertised to me. On top of that, the movies were barebones, no extra features. Better for Valve to bring in an existing app, like Apples or Amazon's and let someone else handle it. Valve can't bring anything revolutionary in this space anyway, it's overcrowded as is. I bought a Sailor Moon episode, just for the heck of it to try it out. I wonder if I still have it? LOL!!!
Now that I think about it, the movies used the cloud to be viewed, I don't think you installed them. I never associated Valve with the cloud before (just saves).

But valve has already a defacto Monopol as a videogame store.
Would make no sense to try to get that Status in other areas too...

They got rid of it because not many people knew they had this service. Plus the movies had buffering issues from what people have said back in the mid 2010s.

It wasn't even just because few knew it existed. Due to stricter licensing, they could sell to a very low percentage of Steam users in the first place. The costs of supporting that tiny potential market just wasn't profitable enough when far better alternatives already existed.
