If you don't want DRM then GOG.com is good place to go, other then that your best option is to wait for specials and buy games on steam.
Heroic runs on Linux too.
Can´t you just NOT take the free Epic games if you are not gonna use it??
it would seem to me you are just getting them out of FOMO rather than because you are actually gonna play, so if you are not really gonna use Epic, can´t you just ignore free giveaways?
I mean, for starters, that´s why Epic gives so much free games, in order to get more players. Steam used to do it too and then it stopped and now most of the free games are trashware, scams or short indie first dev games.
Sure, it certainly works both ways. I remember in 2020-2021 or so, I had a plan to stop buying new games on Steam and focus on migrating over exclusively to GOG where their DRM free approach gives me more control. This was going well for a while until the Steam Deck was announced. I got one, fell in love, and suddenly I wanted all my games on Steam again just for the convenience. I find myself re-purchasing previous GOG purchases on Steam when a good deal comes up.
Everyone has their reasons for wanting their games on one platform or the other, but I don't really ever see someone asking how to migrate their Steam games to the Epic Store. It's always the other way around.
lots of games have there own launchers you can sign up and download the games directly from websites, in many cases steam or epic is not even needed , you can buy the game directly from most game pages.
what is nice about steam or epic is that you can have all of your logins migrated under 1 account so you don't need to enter passwords or user names for each game.
always remember that DMR is not user friendly it was added to games to lock others out and to promote profits of the 3rd party sale stores. Steam wants you to think that they are the only place you can get the game, however you can often buy the game with No DMR and play it with no game front software running that takes up resources.
GOG allowed that for only a handful of games through GOG Connect. It was time limited. Hell it was time limited so much Stellaris only worked for literally 2 HOURS before they canned it due to FRAUD. After that GOG COnnect basically died
First of all its DRM, not DMR so you need to have the most basic knowledge of what you are trying to discuss.
Actually quite a few games on steam have no DRM at all and you can launch them without Steam even needing to be installed. Its up to the dev to choose if they want to use the steam DRM and to what degree.
I mean steam's ability to transfer games is identical to every single game platform right now...
Steam never makes the claim that they are the only place you can get third party games, and pretty much every site except GOG (which doesn't have the overwhelming majority of games) has one form of DRM or another to help combat piracy.
