Using * to replace swearing words is bypassing the profanity filter...
I guess there is quite a lot of peoples in here, may know about that rule. For me, that is new even I have started to use steam since 2016. Just few days ago, I got warning for "bypassing the profanity filter". I left comment about how bad the game dev ruining the game matching system and using * swearing words to describe how bad it is. That forum moderator lock that forum with 150 comments and also delete my comment and the others. Yes, I got the warning just for this. For these 7 years even now, there is a lot of peoples or even the game dev using * to replace swearing words and nothing happen. You may say moderators they dont have time to check. Sometimes, the moderators left comment and the forward comment also have * swearing words so that is impossible they did not see that. I guess is the rule is here but most of the case 90% moderators dont care about this problem. I know rule is rule but that moderator keep all the comments is talking about how good the game is even the words is very unfriendly, laughable, provocative... and also deleted all the complain comments. "THANKS" to that moderator to let me know what is bypassing the profanity filter rule...

You got modded either because 1)you were way too aggressive in your speech - it happens to the best of us or 2)the forum mod was most likely a biased fanboy who can't cope with any sort of criticism.
Yes, that is technically correct. Just posting the word kicks in the filter and replaces it with hearts, not making the word visible (but likely still understandable through context). Using * to replace part of the word makes the word more visible, ergo one circumvents the filter.

Most moderators don't look at it. But some indeed uphold the rule.

If it was a paid moderator (as in not a game hub moderator, officer or game dev) then it's very possible they didn't look at context and merely looked at the reported post.
Which is why i use more creative ways than asterisks.

Never got hit for using male cow excrement in my posts.

Not even when mass reported by ventilated youths.

Did he replace part of the word, or all of it? If it's all, then that seems a bit of a reach for "bypassing the filter".

Yes, doing that can be seen as bypassing the filter.
