Any way to tell if a game uses ML/AI generated assets?
Before I buy it, so I can not buy it. I know dlsite has a checkbox to hide all products that use it, but I don't see anything similar on steam.

You can't.

Since you can't just auto-detect it, Steam would have to add a checkbox (or similar) for publishers to set. And other than stuff like controller support, a publisher might not even know -- a graphics artist might have use an AI-backed tool that he found produces good results for what he wanted.

Well, some of them are pretty blatant, see:

https://store.steampowered.com/app/2193940/The_Hidden_and_Unknown/

Other than that (using your own eyes and obvious cases), no.

The Hidden and Unknown is rather on point with that embed.

Shame. I hope Steam and Itchio add such a filter in the future.

in my mind ai is not a problem if artwork was not "pirated", because in many instances even if no piracy is involved companies "borrow" from each othe ie dark soles clones etc which equaly impacts overall quality of all games, ai in itself if done right poses no problems, ie a lot of is people just doing asset flips as if piracy = ai generated, which is not ogften piracy is combined with ai tp pevent detection of piracy which in itself content piracy issue.

I thought they had outright banned games that used AI generated content

I think for general assets in the 3d space is fine, but on 2d artwork it gets sketchy... people can just steal peoples art styles and make tons of high quality character/environment assets S tier now in seconds, so it might be off the rails.

Nah, they just made it so they had to be generated from things trained off not-copyrighted content iirc. I'm not sure how hard they actually try to enforce it, or to what extent they actually can given that from what I know, most of the software is already pretty shady and dishonest about what it was trained on.

People are probably just gonna lie anyway so it's inferior to having a straight ML/no-ML filter switch in the store, at least then people can, say, report to Valve if a game is using it without saying it is.

It's pretty much a given that most corporate/big budget games are gonna abuse this stuff going forward, so I'm more thinking about indies here.
