A couple of questions about Windows 7 in 2024.
So it's been made clear that Steam will no longer support Windows 7 after Jan 2024.

But what exactly does this mean?

Does it mean that Steam simply won't get anymore updates? But we can still play our games in the "offline" mode?

Or does it literally mean that once Jan 2024 comes all of a sudden we wont be able to launch Steam at all and get an error message even while being offline? Currently the way Steam works is if we don't have an internet connection it will simply ask us if we want to use "offline" mode to play our games.

I did some googling but can't seem to find an answer to my specific question. All I find are people complaining (about the end of support) or the typical "Just upgrade to windows 10/11) people telling them to upgrade.

and yes before you anyone here tells me to upgrade, my main PC is a modern gaming rig with Windows 11.

I'm simply asking because I am using my old PC (8700k) as a Windows 7 PC for legacy games and just for the fun of it.

I recently formatted it and installed a clean copy of 7 of it with all the updates. So I would like to add some of my old Steam games on it.

Helpful comments will be greatly appreciated.

No "professional" hacker is going to waste his TIME hacking some randoms PC.
Are you not aware that time is money? They are looking to make a buck.
It's quite obvious that some random Windows 7 user in 2024 doesn't have any.

They are looking to make money, the only users who should be even slightly concerned about using an outdated os would be small businesses who work from home.
How does anyone know your pc is not of a small business?

I don't think anyone really gives a damm about that bud.
Most of us are just simple gamers who go to work, come home, game. etc.
WTH makes you think we are so important as to waste time and resources hacking some no names gaming PC?
Get a clue.
It has nothing to do with "how big of a target you are" or anything like that. It's about safety. Windows 7 is completely unsafe to be using on the internet already in 2024. The really big issue is you could get a virus, keylogger, rootkit, etc into your computer and you would have no way detecting that it's there or any possible way to clean it. You could already have a virus in your computer if you're still using Windows 7 right now and you wouldn't even know it. And if you do get a keylogger / malware / virus from the internet then it would record all of your logins and passwords to every website you go to and you would be royally screwed. Windows 7 is too big of a risk to do much of anything on the internet today because of all of this.

Fair but that goes back to safe browsing which is something you should be careful doing no matter what os you are using.

Unfortunately it doesn't matter anymore if you have safe browsing habits or not. If you use Chrome in Windows 7 then you can get infected with viruses just by browsing websites that seem to be legitimate / safe.

It's only a matter of time before all other web browsers on Windows 7 end up in the same situation once they also end support and stop issuing updates for Win7. For Firefox that's September 2024 then Firefox will be unsafe to use in Win7.

Lol listen to you, acting like you browse with Windows 7.
You don't know the facts so stop pretending like you do.

When the browsers stop updating, you should not use win 7 too.
I have Windows 7 on my desktop PC and I'm able to browse the web just fine with Firefox.

So, if a browser hasn't supported older operating systems, let's say maybe after like a few years, some modern websites might not work correctly.

How it's happened each time, any website that's required a secure connection, older browsers simply weren't compatible with the newer security changes.

So, that oddly means, no youtube even. But more importantly, no banking, no online purchases etc etc.

I have no idea where you came up with that. I never once wrote any comment either anywhere in this entire thread or where you quoted me that I claimed I either run Windows 7 today or browse the internet with it.

TODAY yes. You will not be able to do that anymore after September 2024.
For the "After Life" moment of Windows 7/Firefox/Chrome/etc, you guys always have this:

This is true.
My Bank has already raised the system requirements to use their WEBSITE to Windows 10 and either of the browsers Edge or Chrome.
@Vitdom -- what is wrong with Firefox on Windows 10/11?! :)
