Steam not accepting AMEX from UK account holders?

Sorry if there is a post about this elsewhere. 12 days ago I could purchase games using my AMEX CC. Go to purchase a game today and AMEX is no longer a select able payment option. There are also listed payment methods I have not seen before. Steam Help not giving an exact answer so thought I would check here to see if anyone is aware why AMEX CC no longer a selectable payment option for UK people.

Austria, me too, cannot use it now anymore. was using too Amex

It was still around (give or take) three days ago. I'd been using Amex for ages, too.

It's still possible to use Amex via PayPal, of course, but I'd been happily not using PayPal for years.

Seems to be a decision on Valve's part. I wonder why.

thanks GOLD and Lycaeriz- seems they have stopped accepting AMEX cards now. However if you ask them they will not give you a straight answer - I get told that my account store is set to my country and you will then see what payment methods are available. I am on my fifth straight time of re-asking if someone would give me a simple yes or no - they don't seem to understand the concept of giving a simple yes or no. I suspect they have quietly dropped AMEX as I beleive it has some of the higher transaction fees.

Thanks - Looks like American Express direct payment as like visa or mastercard is no longer accepted by STEAM. Although I have an AMEX card saved on my account but it is telling me to edit it. no notice/announcement out from Steam, and they are not confirming my direct questioning of it.

UK here - went to buy something from the store today and saw that my previously saved AMEX has been removed and Amex no longer appears as a payment option.

Hi everyone - this is the official response from Steam - so you may wish to try it out:


AmEx should be available in your region.

At this point, I'd recommend removing any stored payment information from your account and attempt to make your purchase again, re-entering your card information.

To remove payment details from within your Steam account, please do the following:
Log in to your Steam account through the Steam client or a web browser

In the upper right hand corner, select your username and click"Account Details" from the drop down menu

Under "Store & Purchase History" you will see your saved payment method. Click the "Delete" link to remove this information from your Steam account

Once removed, please attempt to purchase again. If you're seeing any errors or still having trouble with this, please provide screenshots of each step you're taking so we can take a closer look.

Cheers for following up. I was in the same situation. Had to switch to a disposable virtual card.
Edit: UK also.
