Are FPS games redundant now?
It's a genre that's been tried and done 10 million times over now. They're all the same to me now; shoot everything that moves. It doesn't matter if it's cod and/or zombies, battlefield, tf2, CS, etc. FPS rarely bring anything new to the table anymore.

markets oversaturated for ages, yes.

As long as people purchase and play them, they're not redundant.

As long as making uninspired rehashes of previous games is profitable, companies are going to do that. Less work, more profit.

Not redundant. Way to many nowadays that they get boring, quick, for me nowadays. Gaming for over 2 decades and FPS games all seem to bleed together. Plenty of the younger gamers still enjoy and buy them. In the years to come they may get bored with them and stop playing them but when that happens more of the younger gamers will likely start playing them

Yes, but they proved to be a popular and easy formula, they don't have commonly a deep or complex lore, and the gameplay mechanics are addicting.

I'm afraid videogames are redundant now. More of the same with better, more realistic graphics.

I think we gotta give these people some slack, though, because it's like everything has been done already. Creating something innovative is no easy task.

No.
Every genre is "redundant". They've all be done before.

I'd have been happy with PS4 gen graphics if they'd improve things like basic collision detection. No reason for a Sword\Axe\Gun\Hair that hangs on your characters back to go through their shoulders, cloths and butt.

NPCs shouldn't be able to go through solid objects unless they have a special ability or tech to do so.

Better camera control for third person games. I can look straight up, why does the camera always stop around 10 degrees short. Stop camera hitting a wall/surface and sliding up/down/left/right cutting our field of view. We can't go through the object but the camera is not us. Let Camera go through the object and keep the frames target on the edge of the object. The camera object and the cone is not being render.

Better controls. If you're adding lots of them stop using a single button for a bunch of different things. Use combinations or let us set a preferred order. I stopped playing Assassins Creed for that reason shortly into 2 and haven't played any since. I want to hang of the roof when I 'm stood at the edge I do not want to take a step towards the body and pick it bloody up. Either use Combinations like soooo many other games do or a preference/priority, like whats closest.

Ok, that turn into a big rant, sorry :steamsad:

A lot of other genres have been done before, like 3rd person, platforms, RTS, they were all done to death before, and some like RTS suffered a blow that's lasted for years.

You want to know what hardly any of the genres bring to the table these days?.

Good AI, like actual AI that doesn't always resort to either running away, cheating to remain a challenge or hiding behind a wall and peeking it's head out in such a stupid manner, to give you such an easy kill.

There hasn't been a good believable AI in years. The last I saw that was something close, was in FEAR, but even then that was entirely scripted.

Also this doesn't make for Steam discussion tbh, this board is about Steam, not FPS games, that's better served for Off-Topic discussions.

It's a pointless question. Every single genre is ridiculously saturated. People say that about every type of game they hate, especially if that genre is successful.

Nintendo's been churning out redundant plaformers since the 1980s. I don't care for them but someone is buying those games. Good for those people.
