Honestly I wish age of empires 2 would just come out with more dlc campaigns or an age of empires 4 DLC for more campaigns.
Try 0 A.D. Free and open source that started as a mod to AoE 2.

The game has 3 campaigns and its gameplay is very similar to AoE.
Empires is available on GOG.
And the expansion too.
C&C4 sucks - the concept of game changed a LOT so would not recommend that one.
I like the idea of cossacks but the execution of the latest cossacks re release was terrible.
Basically abandonware now.
