"This Browser is Insecure"
So, I can't use my youtube account in the Steam overlay anymore, and I'm not sure when or why it started. It's strange because I was signed in moments before it happened.

Use a real browser.

That's been happening for quite a long time now.

The Steam overlay browser is insecure by default since a long time, because there are no security mechanics like in normal browsers have.

It's recommended to disable this function by default to prevent data loss, block several tracking mechanics and advertising campaigns by third party companies. Some huge gaming publisher around here using the overlay browser as additional tracking feature in their games as well.

Embedded Youtube videos here even if they are not actively opened, automatically activate Valve Referal tracking, Youtube Log Events, Streaming Stats, Addata, Google Ads/Doubleclick - of course everything unfiltered and without a chance to opt-out or decline. It's actually irresponsible.

You don't have to tell me, but thanks. Quoting from context without context is also an art in itself

Yes because you claim the steam browser is 'insecure'

By definition, you are claiming chrome is 'insecure' since the steam browser is literally just chrome

You are confusing 'ad tracking' with 'security problems' theses are not the same thing. Nothing in the rest of your rambling nonsense post has anything to do with 'security' or about how CEF magically is 'insecure' in any way because you don't like ad tracking. You tell people to 'disable this function' yet don't even bothe rto say what this magical 'function' is and what on earth this function is somehow magicaly going to prevent the laundry list of nonsense from "data loss"

Not really, i put it on the same stage of the PUB (potentially unwanted behavior) and/or PUA (potentially unwanted application).

Furthermore it is spyware, because it's supporting data mining in a big way about persons and interactions and send such information to another parties and behaves differently than expected by the users. How do you call a program like that, secure?

We can talk about definitions, but that's not what this thread is for. The only point you got is related to the substructure of the software itself. No more, no less. I am talking about the behavior.

yes seems political more than technical

oh well its main use has always been browsing steam or looking up a guide/walkthrough on the web

Valve may need to contact Google to get their app authenticated. There is nothing we can do. We can't even watch age-restricted videos on Steam now. It's impossible to open those videos through the overlay. If we have a walkthrough, or a review of an age-rated title, then we cannot see it.
We can link it, but we can't see it. Making it pointless to even link the video. On the bright side, it does make it completely family friendly.

That's not the point of the Google restriction.

Windows 11 still contains Internet Explorer, that doesn't mean you should use it.

This thread was quite old before the recent post, so we're locking it to prevent confusion.
