Steam going down/offline almost daily for seconds to minutes
The past 2 or 3 weeks I've noticed that while playing MW2 DMZ or MW3 Zombies I constantly get "your profile was signed out - Quit to desktop" only to discover that the steam client has "no connection"

Upon further checking steamstat.us, sure enough steam had a blip and stays down for anywhere from 30 seconds to a few minutes then comes back. I've checked my router and modem logs (both separate and owned) and found no issues. Ports open on the router and open NAT yet i still have frequent steam connection issues. (frequent being daily at least once or twice for a few seconds) This RUINS online gaming. It's become a daily thing watching the servers just freak out and come back with no word from steam on why it's happening. Maintenance is on Tuesdays but it seems like they are constantly having network issues or rebooting servers across the board.

Majority of the outages occur between 9am and 3pm EST without any communication before or after to alleviate and reassure the community the issue. Going down for even a second when it's not maintenance Tuesdays or when servers are at peak load is just unacceptable this often. It's become a daily thing being unable to play online games without an interruption and losing everything when matches can be up to an hour long. That little tiny outage just wiped that play session out. I work 3rds so I would have thought that any connection issues or server issues would be minor compared to peak hours... at least here in the US. I'm kinda tired of it happening and not hearing anything on WHY and WHAT WE ARE DOING TO FIX/MITIGATE IT from happening.

Coming from an I.T. background, a few times sure, you can't predict everything but a daily occurrence is just terrible coming from steam without fixing the root cause of the issue.

I am getting this too, for me it generally happens around or just after 11 pm UK time. I am also an IT guy and have spent hours trying to work out the cause,

I have tried unlinking and relinking Activision account, rebooting router, switching from wireless to wired, switching back to an old PC with older hardware, non of these made a difference.
I have trawled event logs, checked router error logs. Nothing locally indicates there is a problem. It is entirely external to my home network.

When it happens I am often on Discord chatting and that doesn't disconnect, in fact last week it happened to my friend whilst we were chatting then less than a minute later it happened to me. It sometimes takes a minute of waiting but Steam just automatically reconnects and then everything resumes as normal.

When it happens the Steam client reports NO CONNECTION at the bottom and MWIII (MWII also did this) boots me out of a match then pops up SERVER DISCONNECTED Your profile was signed out. I can happily stream video or browse the web whilst steam is in this state and i have left a ping -f running to an external host to confirm I am not getting a bad network connection. I don't even see a change in the TTL outside of the normal variation.

If this is a game specific issue you would get the most help on their forums:

A quick look sounds like it's only happening on their game and you will need to alert the game company for them to reach out to steam if it's a issue between each other servers somehow as many people believe it is.

It's definitely not a game specific issue, it's across the board for any game I play and it's directly related to steam clients connection to the steam servers, but the issue isn't on my end going out. It's on steam's connection coming in. Just dropping out of no where without reason or cause unfortunately. I've looked all over steam support pages and found no help or way to really report the outages which is frustrating.

Steam issues outside of my control and no way to report them or give them information on the issues as they arise.

I have only seen posts about a few cod games this is happening in and if this was a global issue for all games it would had been posted about a lot more.

A quick look on the forum for this shows it's a issue between that game and steam somewhere so you need to reach out there as you can find that link on the cod game pages.

Activision relies on the connection to Steam's online services to play any new CoD title. They didn't need to do this but here we are.

Steam servers have been up/down more recent to gear up for the Autumn event and the currency updates.

It happens.

Complain to Activision about their prodcuct having a too touchy DRM. It would be saner as a login check, and then an occasional check before entering a new match instead of instantly hammering you for network hiccups.

have you run tracert to see where it timeouts or probably does crazy circles over the globe?

When this happens whole Library starts behaving like it's in Offline mode: "Steam Cloud doesn't sync", "achievements don't unlock properly or at all", that sort of thing. Until permanent "fix" is out... People were suggesting regularly clearing download cache in Steam -> Settings -> Downloads (maybe just a placebo, though...) and/or changing download region (again in Steam -> Settings -> Downloads) to one(s) not affected by outage.

Not sure if its my Firewall(s) or not but if you are downloading anything in steam while gaming - you're Bandwidth/CPU resources (in steam) go straight to hell.

Make sure you are not downloading anything in the background - beyond that - the stuff everyone else pointed out applies.

Most people won't notice this issue unless you are playing a game that drops you when connection drops to steam or you are chatting with people on steam ( that's how I noticed it, from chatting).. I do not own CoD.

It has been happening for a week or two and the connection only drops for like 2-20mins usually.

Anyways, I have seen this happen when I don't even have a game running, just pops up NO CONNECTION at the bottom of steam, then corrects itself after a bit. ( not talking about regular tues updates).

I have a similar problem but with ESO mmo game. So it's not only CoD. it's so frustrating. It goes down a couple of seconds. Long enough to be disconnected from the game

Probably some intern stumbling on cables. Pretty common stuff.
Smart Nov 19, 2023 @ 12:02am
it will happen on more and more games. And more frequently. Nothing we can do about.

And here we go again, same time frame, same behaviour. This is a Steam problem not a developer problem.
