Animated artwork quality reduced
Does steam lowers the quality after time to save space? every time i upload artwork looks sharp and after a while quality gets reduced significantly until looks bad.

No. Quality stays the same as it was uploaded. This is why each artwork is limited to 8MB and you get a total of 18.6GB cloud storage for both artwork and screenshots combined with an unlimited account.

Just checked mine and they are the same as they were when I uploaded them. I always use PNG files - supports transparency and is lossless.

I forgot to add animated artwork to the title, i'm not talking about regular artwork those are fine.

Then use APNG. Problem solved.

Valve doesn't affect the file whatsoever, but its possible you are seeing a lower resed version cached on the cdn

All your animated artwork looks crisp to me

The thing is if you want to have animated artwork matching with the steam animated background (those that you buy with steam points on the shop) you need to upload them as gif.

are you seeing the lower quality stuff on just the client, on the browser, or both?

2 days ago i uploaded the artwork and it looked crisp, now you can see a bit of pixelation noise in the background.
And if i reupload the same file it still shows the noise pixelation. But if i recreate the same artwork using another file the quality its good.

I'm not seeing any pixelation noise at all on my end, thats why im thinking a caching issue, have you checked both browser and the client? Or tried a forced refresh?

Look here is what I'm talking about https://imgur.com/a/TfIbA2p

On the left side is the original gif file 7mb size, and on the right it's how it looks on my steam profile, i took a screenshot putting them side by side, be sure to click the image to get the zoom.
The one on the right clrealy has extra noise and even color reduction, look in the eye for example, try to spot all those little white dots on the black area as well.

i know it's something minor, but i can see the difference.

I can see what you mean in the image, but what im telling you is that when i go to your profile, and look at the art on its own, its the image on the left im seeing

this is why I think its a caching issue, now I keep asking and I'll do it again, are you seeing the same thing on your profile with both the browser AND the steam client?

if I look through the browser i think looks the same , but if I see it in my profile it looks bad.

I did some disk cleaning earlier, maybe it got rid of some stored cache data or something.
i will make a new artwork and see if it's solved.

ok if its only looking bad in the steam client you should probably flush its cache
https://www.addictivetips.com/windows-tips/clear-the-steam-web-browser-cache/

you will have to relog but see if that helps

you shouldnt have to make or upload new art, if its just a caching issue, this purge will force steam to refresh the image

Still the same, i guess i can upload the artwork again, its not a big deal, is literally 2 transparent pngs on top the gif.
Thanks for the help anyways, it was a good suggestion.

hmmm
if you see it happen again then I would suggest dropping some feedback in the beta group
https://steamcommunity.com/groups/SteamClientBeta/discussions/3/

it might not be an issue with the client itself but thats where the steam devs will see it and if it "is" a cdn issue then they are the ones who can shake akami up about it.

heck it wouldnt hurt even now to let them know
