I got a question about Ys V: Lost Kefin, Kingdom of Sand
I found out about a fan translation for the PS2 version on https://www.timeextension.com/news/2025/06/a-new-fan-project-aims-to-translate-taitos-ps2-remake-of-ys-v-into-english.

Nihon Falcom sometimes licence fan translation like they did with Geofront The Legend of Heroes series Trails from Zero and Trails to Azure and Ys vs. Trails in the Sky. Is it possible we are gonna see something like this with Ys V if the Fan translation goes on uninterrupted and get completed. Here you can check what i mean about Geonfront https://geofront.esterior.net/titles/

ask in the games own forum, or contact the games publisher / developer.

This is a Steam related sub-forum, to discuss using the steam client, app, websites UI.

The game doesn't exist on steam, i can't exactly visit that game forum. As for contacting the publisher / developer how do i do that?

Hi there, I'm the main lead for the translation that you're talking about. While many Ys and Trails games have their translations originally be based off of fan translations. It's not Falcom that is in charge of that, but rather the publisher of the game (so XSEED, NISA, re/fint, GungHo, etc.)

Another thing to add is that the PS2 version of Ys V: Lost Kefin, Kingdom of Sand itself was licensed out by Falcom to Taito for publishing and with Access as the developers. I assume it would not be straight forward to get all companies to agree with the porting/remastering of this game in the first place.

What's more likely going to happen is that Ys 5 will get a remake done by Falcom themselves and some publisher will be responsible for its localization. I'm assuming that the new remake would be so different that there would be no point looking to fantranslations. But if someone wants to hire me I'm not going to complain LOL

Regardless if a remake of Ys 5 is announced/released/localized before I get this fan translation done, I will still do my best to get it finished as I want to get this version translated mainly because of how much I love this series.

Thank you for the questions and for your support!

Got it thanks for answering :) i wonder if NISA or whoever is doing Ys localisation would port the PS2 version translated by these guys if a remake doesn't come up later. Well its not like NISA or the others would communicate that with us anyway :lunar2019grinningpig:
