So, about people writing user reviews for games...
Who's tired of scrolling down to the user reviews and seeing somebody write a one sentence review that's usually about "not wearing any pants" and instantly giving the game a 10/10? It was funny the first time, but every page I go to, I have to see the same old joke re-hashed. "I shot a midget in the face with a potatoe gun! 11/10."
I have to instantly dislike those reviews everytime I see them. THEY ARE NOT FUNNY ANYMORE!

I forgot to mention my suggestion -- there DOES always seem to be the one guy or girl that writes the very first review, who happens to have like 900 hours playing. I don't believe much objectivity can be found there. The key is to ignore the true believers, and get to the recent reviews.
I wrote a one sentence review for Knights of the Old Republic for the community badge. One of the best games ever. Maybe I will write some proper review some time, but that will require a fresh play through.

"True believers"? Stan Lee, is that you?
Well the people who like it are giving you a biased view of their subjective opinions. People who genuinely dislike the game typically post the facts as raw as possible without the sugar coating. Alas, there's far less bias available in negative reviews.
I personally enjoy sarcastic reviews (there's a great one for CoD:BO2); but I agree, short reviews without supporting evidence are wastes of space and time.
I like this Mass Effect review.

it made me gay
My favorite is seeing the same person write, "This is the reason I am still a virgin" on multiple games.
Why would you use the review system, just go on the game's forums, odds are you'll find what you're looking for from an argument between a fanboy and someone who hated the game.
Your level should impact the visibility of your reviews.:wololo:

I try to use it alot. Even though, I started this discussion, I am guilty of writing one sentence reviews, one was for Defiance, when I didn't really know what I was doing, I just thought my friends would see it, and the other one was for Garry's Mod, but that's because I felt like everyone needed to have that game in their library. Anyways, I try to be fair and honest with my other reviews. I try not to review a game until I have about 25 hours of gameplay in, and reading user reviews have helped me determine whether or not I'd like to purchase the game. For example, Watch_Dogs, I was very close to buying the game at the initial launch, but after reading the reviews, I was persuaded not to.

I only read negative reviews to better understand the things that I will dislike about the game before I buy it. Reading positive reviews is a waste of time regardless of how long they are. :devilskiss:

Same overe here, it is the best thing you can do I guess. Besides that, if I want a serious review of the game I rather go to other websites...
I think they should have a way of ordering reviews... I normally look for ones made by people who have tons of playtime
10/10 would read again
Some of those one sentence reviews actually do tell you something about the game.

For example I saw a review of fallout 3 claiming: "Crashes more than hellen keller trying to drive"

This tells me that some users are having crashing issues. :)

Completely agree. Often I'll have to scroll past about ten of these types of "funny" posts before I find any attempt at a legitimate review.

Maybe if there were filter tabs that sorted between 'funny' or 'informative' that could work. Or perhaps if there was a Steam badge that could be earned through reviews it would give people an incentive to actually try and articulate what they like/dislike about the game rather than trying (and failing) to be funny.

Or just f*&king ban them. Ban them all.

That being said, there was a review for CS GO which was so perfect I know it off by heart:

'You either die a scrub or live long enough to be called a hacker'
