Are games free for a limited time in my library after an event?
So, the halo games are on sale, and I got the mcc for free, so that begs the question, will these games be removed from my library after the event?

A very easy way to tell "free weekend" and "free to keep" apart:
Look at the price tag.

If there is a single price tag reduced by 100% to zero - you will keep the game once added.

If there is a free to play button (with a timer) and a price tag ( above 0 USD/EUR/whatever ), then you can only play it during the shown period. After it you wont be able to launch the game until you buy it (or goes on another free weekend).

It clearly says free for 3 days then it goes

You don't get to keep it. That's why it's on sale, so you'll like it enough to buy it.

i thought that possibly meant the window of time you could get it free for

It'll remain in your library until you buy the game or uninstall it, but it won't be playable.

Some games might go on sale for 100% off, but most of the time it's just a trial weekend

Steam DOES occasionally (rarely) give out games for free that will stay in your library permanently that normally cost money. In those cases, they are clearly labeled as such.

Event on the other hand means exactly that. You get to play the game free during the event, after which you need to buy it to continue playing.

CSGO is a bad example since it's free permanently.

Past examples that I can remember where the game is priced but given out free permanently include Little Nightmares, Company of Heroes 2 and others.

Yep. Just have to be on at the right time or have good friends that let you know about them.

Depends on the event

"Free weekends" tend to be 'free during the period only'

There are some free giveaway events, though those tend to be less frequent

I'm guessing because Off Topic users bicker and derail way too much.

True. No arguments there...
