Adult Games
I've had my steam account since 2003. I now have a child. I was excited to eventually give him his own steam account and allow him to play things on it. I was recently viewing reddit and I came to discover a game that included things like rape in it, pretty sure it's just in the description of the game.

Why is this allowed? I get adult themes, and this isn't about that. There are plenty of adult themes I completely understand - Witcher and Cyberpunk to name a few. But why are we allowing themes like rape on the platform? Please don't censor this post, as it's a completely honest question about what is available on the platform. I'd like to hear and honest answer.

I was really excited to share my passion for gaming with my best buddy but if this is just out there for him to access I'll have to take another look. I don't even think it's an unreasonable ask. Themes like that just flat out shouldn't be available, as they're illegal in most countries.

Sexually exiplcit games, you have to opt into. I other words, the only reason you've seen a sexual explicit game is because you wanted to see those!
Now the solution is for your kid to not opt into those. Also, parental controls are a thing, you're free to use those as long as your son is too young to decide for himself.

That said, that game about tape was pulled off Steam anyway.

By default, Steam has filters enabled which hide adult only games. Unless you take several steps in the Store Preferences menu to disable them, they'll remain hidden.
I get that there are filters in place. However, again, I've had this account for over 20 years. I was a kid once. Why is this even an option? It certainly wasn't until fairly recently in the grand scheme of things.

Please don't point out the what about-isms. I'm strictly asking about why this is even an option in the first place. I think any sane person would agree that this is bad.

It's an option because adult related games are a market that devs have tapped into and Steam allows them to as they're not illegal.

Brother, this particular content is very illegal in most place of the world. The game is still available for sale on steam right now.

Report it then. There is a report button on every store page on Steam.
Just remember, that you thinking something is illegal, doesn't mean it actually is...

Pretty sure rape is illegal in most places, but hey, maybe you live somewhere it isn't. I've already reported the game.

Point being, this is trash. Get it off the platform. Who allowed it to happen in the first place?

Rape is illegal. Depicting it in game isn't. So don't get your hopes up.

Murdering people is also illegal, but you seem to be fine with it in games.

Murder and drugs are also illegal, yet we have games that depict both. If it was illegal for the game you're talking about to be on Steam, then Valve would not have allowed it to be on here.
There are many games with rape in it. It's an adult fetish and common hentai trope. You will not get adult games banned on a whim. Why even enable adult content?

Themes of rape are not illegal in most countries. Certain individual creations featuring rape might be deemed illegal depending on the individual creation at the discretion of each country.

If you don't want your son seeing adult content, then don't disable the adult content filter on his account. Set parental controls to, well, control, what he can do with the Steam account.

Personally, I'd be far more concerned with the overwhelming volume of violent content on the platform than about a game you only heard about on reddit AFTER the developer pulled it from sale.

I've already said I understand a sexual content if it's within the context of the story, so I don't know what your point is exactly besides being gross and contradictory.

It's literally for sale right now, or are we talking about a different game? Sounds like valve has a problem here if it's multiple.

Dude, there's a REALLY simple solution here: don't enable explicit sexual content on the Steam store for your kid. And if you don't trust your kid, use parental controls so he won't be able to enable that stuff for himself.

It's THAT simple.

It's for sale and Steam has content filters in place so you literally never see it. Your son will never see it in the store.

Again, Valve wouldn't allow it on Steam if it was illegal
