which should i get tropico or civilization

They are two very different games.

Troppico is like Rollercoaster tycoon but with tabaco.

tropico is more of building/resource management game , civilization is more turn based strategy but with micromanagement as well. civ5 (i guess you are not talking about the new one) is a better game overall for sure, but if you have never played tropico before you will probably have fun with it. i just think tropico hasn't evolved all these years, it's almost the same game with the same graphics engine. if you are new to pc gaming, you could start with the older versions of these games (tropico 4 and civ4) , on sale they are very cheap and they are still both great games.

Tropico isn'ta bad game. but it's not quite civ. It's closer to SIm City and other such games than civ.. Onlye played the first one but it's a bit of fun and challenging.

If you get civ I would go with civ5 + the dlcs. I bought beyond earth at release and it was a pretty big let down. I liked the tech tree but they dumbed down everything else and then stripped a bunch of content out of the game. Also their replacement system for civs/civ leaders is super limited, really simple, and honestly just makes replaying he game really boring.
