Steam early access review/discussion
Could never understand why early access is the way it is for alot of companies. I mean by all means pay for a game! but a demo should be the full alpha and prices should be set when it leaves this stage to help people make wicked games. Any funds through a early access should be a donation and taken directly from the price you pay when companies are finished and are looking to get bailed out of debt :P

"We are very much relying on the feedback of experienced players" is taken straight from early access memo

Personally I havnt been involved in the video game industry, I dont know why it the way it is. Just understand that a community being involved can really leave a mark on an existing alpha.

If any "Steamer" wants to pick apart my comment by all means leave your comments :D

Anyone can go down to eb spend 5$ get stoked for acouple months maybe have ubisoft push the date causing more fusration then on SOME games you have people payying hard earned cash to be fed up and demanding a refund *cough* cod exo suits *cough*

this comment is directly linked to experienced players not wanting to pay to work on your dev team

In responce to this comment in early access flip down "Sorry but any "experienced players" will go on for days how they are not playing early access crap"

Not ripping on exo suits either just sayying people who are into vintage/retro/old school whatever the scene always want classic as an option

Stats will show this just google the amount of people that bought PS2 ;) aposed to this generation pushing extra bits on there hardware according to stats between PS2-PS3 playstation loses about roughly 50% in units sold

Classic gamers are your target audience

Might also have nothing to do with sales and more to do with release of directxbox but I think I read something in guiness gamer edition that NES has set record bars like really high

So any fanboy/fangirl of PS and Xbox should learn to stop blasting and give thanks to your roots in anything beyond 8bit colour

Did you hear this generation of consoles is making nintendo bankrupt? hahaha relax units sold nes is killing the handheld market so you must not have got the memo

It's pretty simple, they figured people are willing to pay and want to play games before they are finished so they simply fill that void. Supply and demand. If consumers weren't buying Early Access Games in masse then less devs would go that route.

It's a pretty sweet deal for devs to be honest. The EAG program allows them to get extra capital they can use on resources to make the product. The EAG program provides valuable feedback so they can shape a game that consumers will want to play. The EAG program supplements their existing bug/quality testing department or for those without a dedicated team allows the dev to spend less time bug testing and more time enhancing the game in other areas.
Classic Example of three games that worked well in Early Access: Asetto Corsa and DiRT Rally, and Insurgency... i know, two racing simulators, and a First Person Shooter, but what better way to get feedback from these "experienced" gamers than to release a build that is acceptable with limited content to show a full Demo, charge less than half the price, then tweak the content available already and then modify the new content to match the pre-exisiting?

Feedback from "experienced players" has done wonders for these games.

I wouldn't recommend using Ubisoft as an icon in the gaming world, especially for PC, their games are usually full of bugs and they're game breaking, with DLC and crap add-on packs as cash-cows. I love Splinter Cell and Rainbow Six, even Rayman is fun for my kids, but Ubisoft has a long way to go if they want to be a full-on "Professionalised" Game Company... they are making good progress with Assasin's Creed and Splinter Cell, Rainbow Six, Rayman, etc.

Options :P check out some of the work Steve Albini did with the music industry on the video doc sonic highways Ive only seen ep.1 but the work behide it is awesome hes in a ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ of debt but he could probably call up some people and have that fixed what a gathered from the documentary is maybe hes more at his creative process when dealing with the stress of being in debt also a gambler so it might have something to do with the fact he doesnt want royalitys. The love of art is a pretty powerful thing. It can turn someone yelling at you over not hearing their football game into someone that wants to be involved.

You think Steve Jobs R.I.P was in it for the money? Possibly but he also tried to finish what he started with what time he had left and is now the go to reference of a loyal employe

You cant have bands like the roots without blues musicans or whatever inspiration each band member calls "home"

For me my thought process for the way I view music has always been with the tragically hip until I up and move they are a more canadian to me then anyone ive seen out on the street

Right on about other influences influencing your own work... the less popular games were mentioned, well one, and Asetto Corsa and DiRT Rally are only known by the "core gamers"who love simulation with 900 degrees rotation, and actual simulated physics, not some arcade style tyres screeching all the time Need for Speed, etc. So i almost hit the nail on the head but did so gently so as not to bend it.

Speaking of Inspiration from other bands and mention of youtube, please allow me to post a music video (well, not actually a video yet, as no monmnetary income from it, just a logo for visuals), with Music Inspired By KoRn, Audioslave, Metallica, and Jimi Hendrix:

If it wasnt for alot of free to play games there wouldnt be alot of gamers halo has announced they are trying to make all dlc for halo 5 free would be nice if they ever corrected there issue with halo3 dlc on my live account but thats the way alot stuff just ends up happening all honesty i shouldnt have had to pay for odst as i was buyying the same products twice lols just to play fireteam... so far what ive seen from smite its a wicked free to play as well 20-40$ and you basically own all the games features makes me exicted when steam pushes a product like that onto "digital shelfs"

That's another reason Early Access is great... if the Dev's are straight-forward about it. They give you the list of fetures coming, release what they have, and add all features that are not in yet for free... sure they get a little less at the start but the quality assurance is not just in the hands of some twitter geeks who may not really care about the finished product, just want to breeze through and get their paychecks, etc.

It's in the hands of the Early Access Gamers too, so we WANT a game that is high-quality, so we post our thoughts, likes, desires, and concerns... bugs, features, improvements, take a look at DiRT Rally's EA Forums here on steam, it's chock full of ideas that many of them won't make it for copyright reasons (getting licensing for something like a ferrari is terribly difficult), but many of the features and improvements have and will be added.
Assetto Corsa is another success.

Insurgency is another success.
