New download UI spamming game updates?
Is it just me, or ever since that horrible download UI update, I can't log in without being swarmed by an army of game updates, even for games that haven't been updated for years? Just what the hell is going on here?

And no, I'm not complaining about the general concept of games being updated, it's just that it became more frequent than usual and it's getting annoying.

Note the download UI doesn’t have anything to do with the number of downloads you have

Recent times have shown otherwise. I haven't seen my games update this much before they added that new UI.

yep its nice to have GTA 4 in my download list when I start Steam.. but the usual folks will say how crap your system is and that its your fault

It's a load of less than 100kb updates for old games for me. Someone in another thread mentioned it was shader cache/housekeeping updates.

Something to do with shader or something.

Again the UI doesnt magically 'make downloads happen' you only get downloads because because the back end sends them to you. You would have gotten the exact same thing regardless. If you dont want the shader cache for Vulkan/OpenGL disable them

Correlation is not causation

sometimes steam makes dummy updates which have no content but still act like they are downloading something when they are not maybe this is it?

If this were affecting everyone, or at least those of us with large game libraries, I would possibly see a pattern.
I have had only 3 updates since the new download U update was pushed, and I installed it. For 3 games that just announced new updates or patches.
That's 3 out of 1887 games I own.
Pretty much the same behavior I had before the new UI.
something def seems off

i just tested with my main account and alt account on 2 different pcs

started steam and i had hl opposing force in downloads on one pc

and hl1 on other pc

now heres the thing i have hl and opposing force installed on both pcs

why would 1 pc pick up an update for 1 game while the other gets update for different game but each pc doesnt get the update the other got?

dummy updates most likely or a bug indeed

I had shader cache unticked and have received none of these mini updates.

EDIT:

Just enabled Shader Cache and these mini updates are related to it and has nothing to do with the new downloads ui.
