Why Buy EA Games On Steam if Origin is Required?
My question is exactly what the title suggests. Why should I buy an EA game on Steam that requires Origin to run? I recently purchased Mass Effect Legendary Edition, not knowing Origin was required to run it. Then when I start it, I have to have Origin running also to play it. One problem is, I could have gotten it cheaper on Origin. So can anyone tell me, why bother buying games on Steam that cost more if Steam doesn't even host the game? Will Steam be hosting these games in the future? If not, I see no reason to buy any EA games on Steam going forward unless they're at a deep discount.

14 years on Steam and you are just now realizing how Origin works on Steam? Should we assume you don't have any Ubisoft games in your library?

Um, how does anyone know Valve is going bankrupt?

No, I didn't see that Origin was required on the ME page when I bought it. I didn't bother looking, because I've been on Steam for 14 years or so and I've never had to do that before. I don't like Origin, which is why I avoid it if I can. I also had issues launching the game I had to find a work around for. Something that wouldn't be an issue if it was a Steam game. I do like having all my games in one spot, Steam. But the game isn't really on Steam is it? It's just irritating that I need both to run this one game. It's not really a problem right now, as I've finished the game, and EA doesn't have a lot of games I like so I don't shop on Origin very often.
I just wanted to see how people felt about it. I don't shill for any company anymore, they don't care about us. But I can see the opinion on this topic is pretty divided. I'm aware of it now, so unless EA games purchased on Steam will be available on Steam only at some point in the future, I don't intend to buy anymore games requiring Origin on Steam. I've had an Origin account going all the way back to when it first started, so I have a library there too. Steam, Origin, Epic, Uplay, Xbox Game Pass, there's too many damn launchers.
The game is still on Steam, so your games are still on one spot. Origin is only required to authenticate and play the game. It is so lightweight that if you didn't have the issues you mentioned, you'd never ever notice it.

Not only that, Origin runs only when the game is active, and when you quit, origin closes.

Seriously, why are you making such a fuss for something so trivial? You are making a huge deal out of nothing. If it really irritates you, then you should reconsider your priorities.

Obviously, you don't buy such games on Steam because it's just crazy to. If customers don't realize that already, they soon will after making that mistake and will never do it again!
Numbers disagree with you. EA games back to Steam consistently made top sellers. There's a sizeable ammount of people who actually wanted to buy those games through Steam.

The real question, the key point to ask instead is: why is Steam actually entering into clearly stupid agreements with competitors?
You got things the other way around. It's EA who came back to Steam, not the other way around.

Steam has gift cards, Origin doesn't.

I've never encountered this before, I don't know how long you've been on Steam but it never used to be this way. If you bought an EA game, Crysis 2, Mass Effect 2, Dead Space 2, or Battlefield Bad Company 2 for example, yeah, I know they're old games but I own them all on Steam. Anyway, you bought it on Steam, Steam hosted the game, no Origin required. There was a time Steam stopped selling EA games on Steam. That was when I had no choice but to buy them on Origin. Mass Effect 3, Dead Space 3, Crysis 3, Mirror's Edge Catalyst, they didn't come to Steam until years later. Obviously there's some new arrangement now, ME Legendary Edition is the only one that works this way I have encountered.

Since when was posting a simple question in the forums "making a huge deal" out of something/nothing? There's no emotion attached to this topic, except a minor amount of irritation maybe. Maybe if I had all caps and some exclamation points I could see perceiving it that way.

I don't think so, it's not listed as the Maximum Edition, which I do own on Origin. I can't remember why i bought it on Origin, or maybe I didn't and it was just a game that popped up because I linked my Steam and Origin accounts.

-i only need origin installed, not actually open.

The last time i had origin open, was months ago when i logged into my account, besides that, im never on it. Even with origin being needed, imo its still better to buy on steam.

to answer the second part of the question.

"Will Steam be hosting these games in the future?"

the game files(build) are hosted on steam, if you purchased the steam version.
while you probably as a publisher could get away with just uploading the launcher as the build and have the download happen from their own servers, i just don't think EA is doing that. they at least are not doing that for the ME game you mentioned.

you would probably have to look through each game, but then again you have a 2 hour within 2 weeks refund window. make use of that time to figure out if that is the case or not.

Why Buy EA Games On Steam if Origin is Required?

Because people choose where to spend their money and because they prefer to play the game via Steam even though Origin is required.

I personally tend to stick to the original launchers and purchase there.

One example of this is warframe, they have a smol af download on steam, its just the launcher, and their gamefiles are hosted on their own servers, and the launcher will download from there.
EA hosts gamefiles on Steam, which you can see by the fact that you will download the entire game on steam, and then you can straight launch it.

Since you claimed that you won't buy EA games on steam due to origin, then you are seemingly making a big deal out of it.

Regarding hosting, the game is actually hosted on steam, so you are downloading it from there. Origin is only required for authentication.

I won't buy them, just like I won't buy Ubisoft or Bethesda games that require additional launchers.

I'm still pissed at Rockstar for adding a launcher to GTAV long after the game was released.
