Steam family, but my son lives in another country
Hi everyone,

I’d like to report an issue I’m experiencing with the Steam Family Sharing feature. I’m a parent and I use this feature to share my game library with my son. However, the problem is that my son lives in a different country, and it seems that Steam is blocking his access to my library through Family Sharing due to this difference in location.

I understand there are limitations to prevent system abuse, but I believe this restriction significantly affects situations like mine, where Family Sharing is being used legitimately between family members living in different countries.

I would like to know if there are any alternative solutions to resolve this issue, or if Steam plans to reconsider these restrictions to make Family Sharing more accessible for families who are geographically separated.

Thank you in advance for your attention and support!

The new rules are simple, every member of the family has to be in the same country and uses the same Steam store region.
If that is not the case you can not share your Steam libraries.
It sucks in cases like yours but there is currently no way around this and i doubt that Valve will change it.

Keep in mind, sharing libraries across regions was never supposed to be a thing. Even with the old system, but as that system was IP based, it was easily abused in one-direction. That reliance on IP address has now been replaced with a Steam store region check, and as such store regions must match.

There will not be any official way to circumvent this new restriction and VPNs, etc., will not help you.

That's just the way it is. Edge cases like you and me (my sister lives in another country as well) are just that, edge cased, and I'm fine with that I'm order to keep the system with the new features viable. We just buy our own copies of the games now, and help the devs earn the money they deserve for their hard work.

it's not an "edge case" it's the norm for millions of families like those in the military or that have students abroad. you can be fine with that but it's not like asking for accommodation would render the new features nonviable.
