That would, these days, depend entirely on the game. Some publishers / developers strictly forbid the use of VPNs and will ban (game) accounts caught doing so.
In terms of Steam itself, a VPN will do nothing for existing Steam accounts. Steam regions are NOT IP based after the moment of creation. So you won't be able to use a VPN alone to change your region to gain access to another region's store. VPNs also no longer work to gain access to out-of-region family shared game libraries.
Nobody has anything to hide ... what could you possibly hide in game ??? it's an online game .
"Saying that you don't care about privacy because you have nothing to hide is like saying you don't care about freedom of speech because you have nothing to say, or freedom of the press because you have nothing to write." - Edward Snowden
As for the question, I've used Proton VPN for a few years now and have had it running concurrently with Steam for a large chunk of that time. I've never had any issues with it. I do turn it off when making a purchase, partly to avoid any confusion and partly because using a VPN can change sales tax figures and, well, I have no interest in getting in trouble with Valve or the government.
That said, when it comes to games, definitely do try to do some research before playing with a VPN. If it's a single player title, you're almost certainly going to be alright but any game with multiplayer could potentially cause issues so research is definitely necessary.
Or maybe they live in a country where the government has signed off on the right for their ISP to sell their browsing history to advertisers, despite criticising the likes of Google for tracking people everywhere they go.
Or maybe they live in a repressive country.
They then get angry enough to throw an insult and then you , your alt accounts , and bots mass report the user and abuse steams AI system . They go off of user feedback so if enough reports go through the system falsely flags the victim for illogical reasons that make no sense .
The thing is it’s so many of you doing this now that people are catching on . This often leads to false bans and your account getting hit randomly for violations that make no logical sense .
Your statements are illogical but that was purposely planned . This is the 76th time I’ve dealt with this in the past 6 years and it just doesn’t stop . Steam is becoming aware of what you are doing . I just continue to make records of it . This is my final response.
To the steam moderators whom I spoke with , THIS is exactly what I’m referring to . These replies are pure bait .
Update: They deleted the account it seems after this response ... see what i mean ?
Also i would never recommend to play any call of duty without a vpn or any better protection than that
Vpn to avoid ddos in csgo is very common
Gta had a big issue where it was really unsafe not to have protection (should be fixed fully by now)
And there are a lot of reasons tl use vpn including watching po....
They will just like the EULA which only talks about using one to circumvent regional restrictions/prices.
" You may want to consult with a legal advisor if you are unsure "
Imagine asking the valve developers if they allow you to use a vpn while gaming or not and they say " we don't do further analysis " WTF does that even mean ?
Yes or no ? I bet if i asked them " am i allowed to hack you guys and commit cybercrime while using steam ? " They'd obviously answer and tell me NO ! Yet if i ask am i allowed to use a VPN while gaming on their service they respond with an answer extremely vague .
Either its against the rules or its not my god ... which one is it ?
For games, it depends on the game.
