GOG style offline installer, but on Steam
Took me a while to migrate over to steam, always loved having my physical copies, but it never sat quite right never having those physical copies.

Not sure why Steam can't allow devs to opt in, or give an option for a GOG style offline installer for certain games and a sort filter option to find games that offer such an option.

Single player and Multiplayer that offers LAN play would be perfect for this. Hell, I'd be willing to pay a bit more for a game that offered this.

Anyone any thoughts as to why Steam haven't tried going down this road?

Steam does it as well. Arguably better.

Plenty of services are able to handle simultaneous downloads fairly well(free and paid). The fact that GoG completely destroys the download speed when they distribute that many files is wild.
you couldn't even download 2 or 3 links at the same time. the only reason i had to do this was when 2.0 came out it was overloaded and had some issue with the gog purchase and had to wait a day or 2.. the version they own was the worst ha! gog galaxy with a purchase from gog for at least uk users was trash and had to be fixed, hence why i even tried the offline install. wasnt worth the hassle.

That clearly isn't true, here I am downloading multiple files at the same time

I only download installers but the games I download them for are never bigger than like 2GB.

I'm surprised they don't just have a zip file with all parts for games they have to split. That's a very basic option for large files that need to be split.

Then that is because you are downloading a game with only 2 files, the .exe file and the single 2GB .bin file. Otherwise if the game is more than 4GB in size then the files will have multiple files each one maxing out at 4GB. They fill up 4GB for each file before adding another file to the offline installer.

Nope, that is absolutely false, it has always been for every game since GOG Galaxy came out for there to be a 1 button push to download all of the offline installer files.
you are wrong but thats ok you dont need to try and tell me what was going on at the time as i was there that very evening. they even posted about it from what i remember, maybe a tweet.. you however dont even own the game.

edit update

still no download all button on the offline installer no.. im on the page right now.
it says

"Install game with GOG Galaxy
GOG Galaxy keeps your games up to date, provides all multiplayer features, enables cloud saves, makes it easy to install games and more.

GOG GALAXY requires Windows 8 or newer. Download size 1MB (additional space required for GOG GALAXY installation and Cyberpunk 2077)."

OR

Download game files only. Useful if you anticipate limited internet access, or want to have a backup. These installers don't support auto-updating, nor on-line features.

with 28 links no download all anywhere on the page

download all is gog galaxy.

edit 2

Cyberpunk 2077 Legacy 1.63 115926 MB is a single link , current version setup_cyberpunk_2077_2.13_(64bit)_(76205).exe is not

You have already been proven to be providing false information in this conversation, so there is no reason to believe your story.

The option to downnload all the files with a single push of a button is on GOG Galaxy, like I showed in my screenshot.

He's saying it won't be one file, it will just download all 28 at once as 28 files.

This 'misunderstanding' is starting to feel like it's on purpose.

Nope, he said you are required to download the files individually pressing on each one.

Yeah,

GOG's offline installer offer is just funny. It works for old games and indies but trying to download a modern AAA game that way is a recipe for frustration.

Probably on purpose.

Except there is a download all option through GOG Galaxy as I have shown in my previous screenshot.

GOG has always separated the offline installers into 4GB chunks so that the files can be easily put onto DVDs. Of course as games get bigger there are going to be more 4GB files.

But good thing GOG made it easier by providing the single button push option through GOG Galaxy while not removing the 4GB chunks for those that still want to back them up to DVDs.

The whole point for me of using those offline installers is to not use GOG Galaxy.

Except when the client doesn't work, or has issues, or can't connect, etc. Then you are required to do each one separately.

gog galaxy isnt an offline installer, my posts were always and only about the offline installer.. sigh

Then you should be glad that its in 4GB chunks instead of a single file, because when downloading through a browser, if something happens like the browser crashes, you lose internet for an extended time, you accidently close the browser, power goes out, anything that disrupts the downloads you will have to start all over. On GOG Galaxy that isn't an issue the download will start off where the interruption happened.
