Can't Use Official Steam Mods on Family Shared Games
I’m experiencing an issue with official Steam mods for games I’ve received through Family Sharing. I have access to these games from a different account and can play them without any problems, but I can’t seem to use the official mods on my own account. For example, I own Half-Life through Family Sharing and can play the base game, but I’m unable to play Half-Life VR or access other mods tied to the game.

When I try to launch the mod, I get an error message saying I don’t have the required license.

Is there a way to resolve this, or are mods restricted when using Family Sharing?

Yes, mods are restricted when using Family Sharing.

An excerpt from the "Family Library Sharing" FAQ in Steam Support:

Can all Steam games be shared?
No, due to technical limitations, some Steam games and content may be unavailable for sharing. Games or content that matches the criteria below cannot be shared between accounts.
  • Free DLC for a game

Mods and other free DLC require that you actually "own" the game.

In your example, you are the "borrower" of Half-Life, not the "owner". :steamsad:
