How to do the old library sharing thing?
Hi everyone!

I remember it was possible to share the entire library to "a device", not to a person or to a family.
What I have to do to make the same again?
I want to share my library to my friend.

I'm perfectly fine into having someone use my library while I am not using ANY of my games.

The old Sharing is gone once you use the new Sharing.

In this page I can still see the old method:

... is that page obsolete? Old information?

Obsolete information.
"Steam Families" has left the BETA 2 weeks ago and has now completely replaced the old sharing system.
For users who already had the old system set up it will work for a short while longer so they have time to switch to Steam Families.
But its no longer possible to set up new connections with the family share system since all options for that have been removed from the Steam client.
So if you are currently not part of a existing family share net from before Steam Families came out you are out of luck.
Going forward Steam Families is the ONLY way to share games on Steam.

Build a time machine and use it to go into the past.
That would be the only way to use the old one.

It's just still there until the full transition occurs. There are many that haven't even logged into Steam for months.

They'll take it down once it is forced upon all accounts.

The old system had a lot of problems on the "family sharing" part of it since it was locking the entire library -- like someone grabbing the entire CD box just play one game.

The new system actually does "family sharing" now. Also, they are now MUCH stricter than before, to make abusing it more difficult. Just read the opening post on this thread, and note that he wants to share games to "a friend". Friends are not family...

i have asked for this many times but they for some reason they want people to buy steam accounts instead of just letting people family share across regions, they treat us as criminals first for this new "maximum profiting" mindset that valve is adopting especially the intrusive asf one year cool down. So weird for steam to make a decision for all the games on steam, if a dev wants actual family sharing like it is on consoles and streaming platforms then let em, we all know it's the big publishers throwing a hissy fit here

why does it matter to you in any way shape or form what friend or family is, family sharing was already a shell of it's counter part on other platforms yet providing a service made steam grow more. Heck i bought my games exactly for this and now it's gone, instead now you gotta give login details if you want any friend or family to try a game out for a short while.

And enough with the abuse nonsense please, people are gonna buy accounts regardless, doing nothing (except banning users for buying accounts of course) would make steam earn money and good will as usual, this all started literally after Netflix did it and then custom music player was removed

The family share was ALWAYS intended to be used to share with your family members.

It is meant to be a method that parents can control what games their younger children have access too or for lower income families to allow their multiple children to play a game without having to buy multiple copies.

It is not meant to be a method to for you or your friends to try and get around any regional restrictions on games.
feel good :steamfacepalm:

Odd that you claim you picked Steam for Family Sharing, to then claim that other platforms have a better version, yet other platforms do not.

It was always intended to be for families, people abused it to rent their library to others etc. Abuse is abuse, period, if you wanted to abuse it and now cannot, seems to be working as intended.

this is not your decision to make and never will be, the way you and others like you in these forums take thing so satirically direct is enough to make any actual customer roll their eyes and not take the person seriously. For 10 years people in these forums literally advised on how to family share yet did you see valve as a respectful company throw a hissy fit? of course not they are not freaking idiots, more and more people get introduced to steam ecosystem and bought their own libraries like me

were you fuming when all this was going on? and oh please hiding behind the same tired lame excuse, this all started cause of Netflix period.
