I was avatar banned
For having this as a profile picture: https://i.imgur.com/DNL2a3S.jpeg

I contacted Support about it, they responded by saying that it indeed wasn't a "good fit", and that I should just read the guidelines. I told them there were official avatars (like this one) that were just as explicit. Still waiting for an answer from them that isn't some generic copied and pasted paragraph.

Rules are pretty much set up in a way no one can mangle them badly.
Sure, there's a few bad apples, but I've never run into them here.
Just because it never happen to you it does not mean it never happen to other people. Anyway if let's say a steam mod makes a bad call who is gonna punish him cause there was a guy here saying a private company can do whatever it want with their rules and does not have to respond to anyone.

You can always ask Steam Support for help if you think your ban isn't valid.
Please stop trying to be contrarian.

Rules are not perfect and they will never be they are applied by humans who will interpret them differently and that's not contrarian it's a true fact.

Some people are really funny if you get banned you are not given any detailed information just a general term one that is subjective so same issue can have different outcomes you might get a snowflake mod who will ban you or someone with a little common sense that will not.

Eh?
That isn't how it works at all.

yes it is, I have had forum bans/warning that one or more support say it's applied correctly, then another comes in saying it wasn't warranted, or sorry for the confusion and punishment gets removed.

had artwork banned for advertising, with a few support saying it was applied correctly, then find out by another support member saying it doesn't break rules and should not have been banned.

I have screenshots of all of my support messages, especially since they remove them (I guess delete them from our view).

moderation action is based on reports (ie.. how many reports happen on said reported "content" and trust that I have tested and researched this fact, taking screenshots, payed attention to timing and seen the amount of reports), they miss context in majority of reports, or punish even when no rules are broken in many of the cases, which is why people mention malicious reporting, cause one report doesn't always get handled, but if more than one report happens, then they are there in minutes to whip out that ban hammer without even looking to see if the reports are false or correct.

heck, I can report name calling, insults and more and watch nothing happen, while other reports I make get handled with the same type of reports, and yes, the reports are on the exact same stuff/words/ect..

have a nice day

another one of those "mods can do no wrong, they are 100% right 100% of the time and you are the issue". just nonsense we all already know is false

I would wonder if it was humans, or crappy ai... but that's something only support/moderation or valve can make known.

btw, support and moderation are run by the same teams, ie.. both run by the same outsourced company, so in general, you could be speaking with a support member for support on a false ban/etc.. who could be the same person who banned you and justify an incorrect ban, while another says it's not justified and removes the ban.

then again, I have talked to ex moderation (vmods), who clearly and vocally say (in forum threads to be seen by all) that moderation is horribly bad since it became outsourced.

Literally no one was saying that, please try again, and don't claim silly things.

However it is true that those who argue about moderation are clearly the ones who deserve it the most. :P

wrong, it's run by the same outsourced company and was run by the same teams before being outsourced...

source of proof, ex vmods.

Why are you claiming impossible things?
Support has to be from Steam directly, or it can't be called Steam Support. LOL.

It also can't be outsourced from before it was outsourced in the first place.
What are you even on about?
You can't create a time paradox.

You do have a history here and everyone can tell that.
LOL.
Your post history is public.
IMAO you serious before you talk at least inform yourself so you wont have to delete it later cause outsourcing support is a cost-effective strategy for businesses as it eliminates the need to hire additional staff, develop infrastructure, or invest in training so by outsourcing, companies can access a global pool of talent without the overhead costs associated with managing an in-house team.

to be fair, it was moderation that deleted those comments, mine disappeared with the offending quoted posts.

Does not change anything about what he said being not true.

And yet, that's not how the STeam Support functions.
Because their names are too well documented to be from America to be outsourced to random places.
Good grief.

If they are somehow from another country, I'll be very confused.
Since they don't act at all like the moderation team.
And Steam has been 100% using normal people from their state in their support for decades.
IT makes more sense to staff a small group in WAshington for Steam Support.

You still not providing any proof just lots of words that means nothing and ,,i just know''. For your info outsourcing wasn't born today and right at this minute it's just evolving to AI and other stuff and that might explain why some steam support replies are bots like.

What?
There's a lot of evidence here.
Whatever, I'm not going to argue with people.

Official pfp of Stalin, a murderous dictator, is allowed, an unofficial pic of mussolini holding a pizza is not, that's enough to tell that they're not properly enforcing their own rules

Yeah, no, try again.
Mussolini holding a pizza would not be banned.
Maybe one could argue it's a plug for Fascism, but that would be pushing it.

And Stalin is allowed for many reasons.
Does not mean they're somehow not properly enforcing their own rules.

LOL wut.

You need to look up the rules better.
Avatars have specific things.
I'm speaking from experience here, about a year ago I decided to put a picture of mussolini holding a pizza as pfp and later a steam mod removed it.

Also "stalin is allowed for many reasons" doesn't sound right to me mate.
