Steam family for multinational couples
So recently steam brought out a new system for library sharing, in which you can create a family, invite your close family to it and then lock games individually when playing them rather then a whole library at a time. Sounds great right? I thought so (and still kind of do). Until I tried creating a family and inviting my girlfriend to it. However, my girlfriend was unable to join, the problem being that my girlfriend is German, whereas I am Dutch, and because we have different nationalities she is unable to join. This is unfortunate because we do live together for most of the time, and according to what I've heard from steam support this feature is meant for close families.
So, here I am, in the discussions, hoping that others might share our experience, and that the developers might see this.

Unfortunately too many people abused family share to rent out libraries, share with people unrelated to them across the globe, etc. Which in part is why they made it how it works now.

Accounts in a Family group need to all have the same store region.
Same here, we've been sharing our libraries for years but due to this change we are unable to do it anymore. Really sucks :(
As for many other things, sadly got to blame people abusing the system for it to be gone.

This forum is for steam families and discussions as you can see many similar posts there and a FAQ with links on it being the same household now:

It has nothing to do with your nationalities, and everything to do with your Steam store regions not matching.

If you're going to together long term and live in the same country, then whichever of you has the "wrong" store region is going to have to use their new ("right" region) billing address and payment method to make a purchase on Steam to set their Steam store region such that your regions match. Then, you can both join the same family.

This is how the old system was meant to work to, but Valve used IP addresses to check region and people abused it to sell family shared accounts to multiple people.
