What the hell, Steam?
So, Steam has the right any time it wants, to modify the customers' rights, the legal agreements we signed up for, and if we don't agree to the changes we lose all access to our purchases?

They can do this with digital purchases because we don't actually own the game just a license to play it. I've started shifting towards buying physical copies because of this. They are making moves to make it where we will have to pay subscriptions monthly for most things including games. Best response is refuse to participate if you wanna fight back.

Well, can't they go in offline mode or something? Hordes of people have Steam running in offline mode, because they are only using it for Half-Life or whatever, and will never see any pop-ups. They never have to agree or disgree with anything, and can simply play their games.
Can't they just dismiss the pop-up, like those people?
If they detect account usage from Nov.1 and beyond, that means you agree to the terms.

I am not talking about me or you. I am talking about the people who claim Steam keeps their library "hostage" unless they agree. Can't they just dismiss the message and look into the mattter later, and just play their games?

Again, if they detect any usage, that means you agree.

The most effective course of action is to stop purchasing products on steam, but good luck with that.
People can do that. People should just not be surprised that other people do differently.

The main question with such things always is: Why should people A, B and C stop purchasing things, and deprive themselves of things they like, just because person X doesn't like something? Cause that's what it really boils down to.

People shouldn't deprive themselves from what they want. In a capitalism the consumer has all the power, so if you don't like what a company is doing then go elsewhere and either the company you don't like will change its policies or they won't, but the choice is yours. Unfortunately there are very few alternatives available for PC gamers, and there are seemingly fewer options available on a ever increasing cadence.

Anyone getting upset because someone else is using a service they don't agree with isn't being reasonable. I won't buy Sony games after the PSN requirement but I can't get mad at others even though if people stopped buying Sony games on PC they would change that policy or risk losing a huge revenue stream from PC gamers. Its just common sense.
That's not what I am asking. I am not talking about me or you. I am talking about that situation which I described, and that has nothing to do with what you are responding with.

Can't they just dismiss the pop-up? Do they have to be bothered by this?

What I stated applies to everyone. I was using "you" to refer to anyone/everyone.

You do not read what I write do you? I am just asking if they can ignore the pop-up and still play their games, without be hassled by this.

They replied to my email with an automated message, that means they agree to pay me.

I do.

It doesn't matter if they ignore it. If there is any usage on or after Nov. 1, the terms are accepted automatically.

Then file a lawsuit. See how far it gets you.

This situation just shows how many people don't read, or ever even understood how SSAs and ToS's worked. Like they haven't already had to agree multiple times before in the past to changes in the ToS, be it for a specific game or other launchers as well (Uplay, Origin, RGL, etc.) And now all of a sudden have decided they want to delete their accounts over this. I mean, sure, if you want to REALLY lose your access to 600+ games you've paid for.

You've always been "renting/licensing" them, be it on here or on Uplay or EA Play. But deleting your account won't suddenly solve that problem. You're just basically willing removing your own access, when no one was even threatening to take it away from you. If anything, Ubisoft was more guilty of that when they forcibly removed The Crew 1 from people's libraries, regardless of whether you already owned the game or not.
Sony also removed movies recently from digital purchases on its console because of an agreement dispute, or I should say failure to extend a contract, between Sony and a movie studio.

Steam is about as far from the good guys as you can get. This is more monopolistic practices and they even say "if you don't like it delete your account".

Going to refund me the tens of thousands of dollars I spent Steam?

Didn't think so.

This is lawfare against their own customers. No one should accept this.

That is literally how all ToS works.

Very bad business practices.

Except it actually isn't. Arbitration doesn't allow class action lawsuits or the ability to have your case heard by a jury of your peers. This change actually benefits most users if they ever had to sue and allows class action lawsuits which is the easiest way to sue on behalf of many users.

Sadly some users just don't know how to properly read or understand changes like this.

You should read the TOS on Geforce Now, Xbox, etc, hate to break it to you but its identical. You will be hard pressed to find any TOS in the world that doesn't have the exact same clause that lets them change it as its standard for EVERYONE.
