Concerning Kerbal Space Program 2
Something needs to be done about this incident. Many people bought this game on the backs of a promise for something better. What they got was an underwhelming Early Access and, from what I've been told, ALL of the significant staff were fired.

I STRONGLY suggest across-the-board refunds.

This is clearly a moment in time in which there needs to be a no-questions-asked refund policy.

DO THE RIGHT THING!

EAGs are sold as is. You got what you paid for, so no.

And that was exactly their mistake. You're buying EAG as it is now, not promises of what it will be in the future.

Early Access don't mean it will ever be ready, it even warns you.

Conclusion stop giving money out so blindly.

Valve already did. They gave you a MASSIVE disclaimer fully explaining what you were purchasing.

Early Access Game
Get instant access and start playing; get involved with this game as it develops.
Note: This Early Access game is not complete and may or may not change further. If you are not excited to play this game in its current state, then you should wait to see if the game progresses further in development.

This disclaimer also links to more information: https://store.steampowered.com/earlyaccessfaq/

And that information also includes this warning:

When will these games release?
Its up to the developer to determine when they are ready to 'release'. Some developers have a concrete deadline in mind, while others will get a better sense as the development of the game progresses. You should be aware that some teams will be unable to 'finish' their game. So you should only buy an Early Access game if you are excited about playing it in its current state.

What is an Early Access game?

They are clearly labelled.

"Get instant access and start playing; get involved with this game as it DEVELOPS".

"This Early Access game is NOT COMPLETE and MAY OR MAY NOT CHANGE FURTHER. If YOU are not excited to play this game in its CURRENT STATE, then YOU should WAIT to see IF the game progresses further in DEVELOPMENT".

Was waiting a problem?

You got what you paid for as described on the store page and purchasing is voluntary not mandatory. You were not forced to add it to your cart and click confirm.

Stop pre-ordering stuff and giving the industry free passes and free money.

Done.

So basically they had an unerwhelming EA launch and product and the people who were responsible for making that underwhelming product have been let go.. and you're mad about that?

Hundreds of years of history tell you to never buy promises. People need to own up to their own poor purchasing habits and take it as a life lesson that history has once again taught.

Yeah, people need to learn to buy finished games, if they want to avoid things like that.

There are some promises you can buy into and the joke here is. No promises have been broken. The game has just hit a development snag that is not uncommon in the industry..

The RIGHT thing would be for customers to purchase things for what they are, not for what they might become. People purchasing something on the basis of "promises" are fools who merely fooled themselves. They're responsible for their own purchasing decisions, nobody else.

It's an Early Access game. Development can stop the very next second after the game is purchased. If people cannot accept that, they shouldn't purchase such games in the first place.

What happened with Kerbal Space Program 2 exactly?
1200V2 Sep 3, 2024 @ 10:12am
Do you trust a used car salesman? Do you trust an early acces game?
If both is yes, make the deal.
If it is yes for the one and no for the other,
don't buy the product.

The problem is one of perception and trust if for both of them the perception is of low or no trust then it will become harder to make a sale or a deal.

So in the end do you as a game producer really want consumers to get the perception of early acces as if it is buying a game from a used car sales man?
Yes or no.

In the end the perception of the audience on early acces as a product will end up as a total of finished complete games and the failures in it's product catogorie. And as a result the perception of that it is a good use of money or a total waste.

But over time to many early acces failures will hurt all early acces titles.

That's up to the publishers and I very much doubt they will offer refunds on an early access title which people bought under explicit conditions.

The problem here is, unlike used car salesmen, All Early Access games are up front about what they are, and what they contain.
Eh?
