Bait posts for steam points? But why?
I'm starting to see what people are calling bait threads: that is purposely create threads to bait people into giving them steam awards (the clown award, mostly) thus a whole lot of steam points. *eyes Concord, Dustborn and Space Marines 2* Or so folks say.

Question I have, assuming this is true, is what on earth for? You can't trade steam points for any games. Sure you can use them to customise your steam page and get a few animated gifs. But is that really worth the trouble?

Same reason people farm for karma and likes on Reddit or other social media.

That's really the basic psychology behind it.

That and some people do sell points on third party sites by giving awards to profiles that pay them.

They've been around this part since forever.

Some people have multiple accounts solely to farm points from eye-catching bait posts. :CVRChanDerp:

If that is true, and they are doing that - they just created a black market for sh1t posts.

OP, asking that question shows you have *a lot* to learn about your fellow human beings...

You can buy Steam xp via the point shop badges. Trading card wise, the xp from those badges probably adds up to around 5-10$ in money every 6 months.

This isn't a large motivating factor of course. I think a majority of people doing it for the points just want to hoard so they can see the number go up.They don't buy the badges because that'd lower the number.

It is an open place for sharing your ideas. Don't tell me you didn't expect some people to abuse that and push the envelope as far as they can?

I really don't pay attention to the points. You know why? Because another problem some people have is the desire/necessity to be #1 no matter what. There are some things you really shouldn't be doing whatever you can to be #1 at and this is one of them.

Why? Because they're dumb?

Also, the people who already made bait/troll/etc threads, now can get more feedback on whether they successfully triggered people - not only do they get responses, they get a score! Even more reason for them to continue to spew out random trash to try to anger people.

(also, you're just starting to see this? It's been wide-spread across Steam since the award system went live. It's a decent fraction of the posts on Discussion and especially Off Topic.)

Useless awards lol i disabled them (hidden) on my profile so they can give them away all they want, i hate them all equally. I do not aspire to be things i am not or do not wanna be because it does not matter i am a human being not a title.

Definitely true. One example: https://www.eldorado.gg/steam-points/i/42-2-0?searchQuery=points

Tell me about it. I'm constantly bewildered by humans. No joke, as a child I read parenting books to try and figure out what the hell goes on in adult's heads.

i have spend over millions of points and point r meaningless. baiting could mean anything, award baitin is boring and yield to nothing. 90% of the so called point seller are scams as they just can undo the awards they give u within 14 days
