Will valve ban steam for RU?
Since the invasion of Ukraine, many tech companies have pulled out of or restricted their services in Russia, but Valve has taken a more neutral stance. Steam remains operational in the country, with some developers voluntarily limiting sales of their games there. Economic sanctions and payment restrictions, however, have complicated operations, with some Russian users facing difficulties in purchasing games.

Personally I think the chance of Steam being blocked is very slim. Not zero, but slim. But even if they do ban it, 60-70% already use VPNs and 99% have some sort of DPI evading tool to use blocked resources. So I doubt it would matter even if steam is banned.

Steam won't be banned in Russia, until Valve itself doesn't forced to do so.
Valve is deleting the content from their platform that was marked by RKN.
So from the law perspective there's nothing to be blocked for.

Even if it would be blocked, people will find a way to use it.

And blocking Steam would be a huge mistake, cause there'll be a huge spike in torrent activity that means income decrease.
I mean, why would they do it 2 years later when the hype (and hate for that matter) had went down a lot

The Steam will eventually be banned in Russia. It doesnt matter what other people think but its gonna happen sooner or later like its happened to Discord. The platform continues to violate Russian Federation laws and overall moral principles by showing signs of Rusophobic behavior and supporting "enemy countries". Steam is not "Neutral" like everyone is saying and im glad that soon it wont be available in my country.

I agree. Valve would lose a lot of money from their Russian customers. CS:GO and Dota 2 has a huge russian population. I think the games would die and queue times would go +15min.

If they ban Steam then they would also need to ban Riot and Epic games.

The entire CIS region including Ukraine,Belarus,Kazakhstan,Russia etc. is only 15% of entire Steam income and playerbase population. Restricting RU region wont affect queue times and income from purchases at all. You technically cant make purchases on Steam already because 75% of AAA games is not available in the region and there is no direct way to topup your steam wallet balance.
Russian government clearly doesn't want a rusophobic platform which cant stay neutral. The block is imminent.
People been telling - nooo they wont ban YouTube, that is not possible = YouTube banned.
- nooo Discord wont be banned = Discord banned.
Now i see yall dont learn from mistakes,so sell your skins while you still can, because they will be gone soon.

I think you underestimate how many Russians play dota 2 and csgo. There will be a huge drop in player numbers.
It makes no sense for steam to be banned. It's a gaming platform. People open steam to relax from annoying IRL problems. I think they will also reverse the ban on discord and youtube. It only hurts the Russian people. They will never ban steam because that makes no sense at all. Steam is a platform for playing games and relaxing after a long day.

As a proud resident of an "enemy country" (Canada), I eagerly await the day when my lobbies aren't full of Z-stormers.
nah, steam will be available in russia...a lot of money from cs and dota players...moreover a lot of bet sites, mafia as well...the bet is a huge money too, so very unlikely for valve to withdraw from russia or the russian ban steam...unless a full scale war outbreak between euro, us, western countries and russia

Because its USA platform. They hate USA. Open their tv and watch. Youtube blocked almost. Its slow down speed. They creat their own platform rutube. But ppls dont watch it. Soon youtube blocked permamently to forse their civilians watch rutube and eat gebels propaganda to mobilise their civilians for future wars. Now discord blocked. Instagram blocked. Internet in ruzzia will be like local network, with this local network regular steam client cant work i think.
