Will valve ban steam for RU?
Since the invasion of Ukraine, many tech companies have pulled out of or restricted their services in Russia, but Valve has taken a more neutral stance. Steam remains operational in the country, with some developers voluntarily limiting sales of their games there. Economic sanctions and payment restrictions, however, have complicated operations, with some Russian users facing difficulties in purchasing games.

Personally I think the chance of Steam being blocked is very slim. Not zero, but slim. But even if they do ban it, 60-70% already use VPNs and 99% have some sort of DPI evading tool to use blocked resources. So I doubt it would matter even if steam is banned.

Good question. I looking for logic already more then 10 years in their actions. And still cant found. The best solution its not search for logic things in their actions. I just try give example Why you should not search for logic things in their actions. Example with discord. Their military using discord in military things, they using streams from drones and stream it in discord. But yesterday their gouvernement block discord, and their drones lost vision. So, i hope i did my best to explane about logic things. IT is USA product. Working on USA economy, USA helping other countries It dosent metter for them gouvernement or not.

The Steam will eventually be banned in Russia. It doesnt matter what other people think but its gonna happen sooner or later like its happened to Discord. The platform continues to violate Russian Federation laws and overall moral principles by showing signs of Rusophobic behavior and supporting "enemy countries". Steam is not "Neutral" like everyone is saying and im glad that soon it wont be available in my country.

Honestly, that would be better for Russia since that would create opportunities to challenge Valve's monopoly the gaming market. Maybe a Russian equivalent to Steam can take over.

Worse case scenario, Russians will not have addiction and pro-western distractions forced onto them by Steam products like DOTA, so hopefully the country becomes productive.

And what then? you gonna pretend 5.9 is not a lot? Its literally 3rd in charts. Or you gonna pretend most of them are bots so they are not real? This is just copium. I dont get why would you try to just cover the fact, that this population is a major force of steam users. They are from country you dont like? So what?
Now regarding dota. You q both eu servers rn. Most of ur teammates will be russians in like 80% of cases. Everyone knows that. You can call them greifers or cheaters or whatever. But when majority of the server is from the same country, obviously, that majority of cheaters and greifers will also be from that country.

The original poster said my point was false with bad and old data clearly that was wrong
I proved them wrong with recent data if Russia really were great as told then it would've been top of top and data would back it up

You intentionally cherry pick the one where Russia was 3rd on the last link
Data cherry picker is calling me copium that's ironic and funny
Even that data is just 2 months for 2024 the rest are missing still that's why I linked the official https://store.steampowered.com/stats/content/ and even that tells you russia is not top 3 like you were saying for the recent version after the ban announcement its on the work

♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ it might be legit
7 days ago Russia was top 3 and after 10 Oct OP Post Russia is no longer top 3 even the steam data proves that

I swear some people don't understand grouping or set differences
I don't like griefing players most of them happen to be from Russia hell I was playing turbo on SEA region few hrs ago and the guy who always dced were Russian who was preblocked seriously they need to stop these bs

Your claim is that due to Russia being majoriy of the playerbase for Dota 2 obviously it will have higher cheating population but why is that Russian cheating member list is higher than Dota 2 active playerbase and they always que outside their region to just dc or feed grief hmm course you're not going to answer that and % wise Russia is the highest like any multiplayer game devs know that

Chinese griefing players are at same tier as Russians when I was in China pre 2019 but with China firewall those griefers don't project and spread to global players thankfully otherwise no sane human would be able to play Dota 2 games with both Chinese and Russian griefers

Region locking bad players would improve behaviour score and lower toxicity for the game immensely that is one of the reason why League has lower toxicity than Dota 2

Toxicity in League is localized instead of globalized in Dota 2

The reason why Russia is starting to ban Steam and its services is to balkanize and make their own platforms even China is starting to make their own gaming platform like Steam from Tencent in future Steam aka Valve will have tons of competition that's better for the gamers when currently Valve has monopoly they have good MOBA alternative to Dota Honor of Kings china exclusive its bigger market than Dota 2 nowadays

In another timeline where world was great and all
Dota 2 would've copied the best of all MOBAs and innovated the MOBA genre to its glory and beyond but we live in the ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ timeline where that doesn't happen

Brazilians already made 7 seas store platform steam alternative already than the Russians its cooking on development right now its getting better compared to past
People only buy games on Steam to project their superiority of buying games and supporting devs with rest of meme social and tech features
all that typing do you even play the game'
Valve's position is "do nothing, and win" :)
