Watch out
Just now someone tried to hack me.

What they tried to do is get me to vote for their Cs2 team. They gave me a link to a ˝razer tournament voting site¨. Once you opened the site you had to sign in. Buttttt the steam sign in page was not the normal steam log in link. it was still the razer voting site scam thingy. I also found a article talking about it: https://www.makeuseof.com/steam-tournament-scam-from-friend/ (hope links are allowed here)

Just posting this to spread awareness. Be careful and if this happens to you change your password ASAP. Always be skeptical. Who knows maybe itll save your steam account

It's a well known scam tactic. It's also not hacking, it's an attempt to phish your details so they can hijack your account.

pretty much a well known phishing trick that's old as hell.

tbh, if people still fall for that trick, they deserve it.

We will continue to not fall for this well-known scam that has been around for quite some time...

99% of people who browse the steam discussions are well aware of the scams.
The other 1% usually posts in here after they have fallen for such things, or when they try to warn people about one.

Unfortunately the 1% which post here after that is the 99% of people who never use the discussions pages at all or get no attention to common scams/phishing from other sources.

Unfortunately there are a variety of scams that happen all over the place, Ones like these are common and have been happening for multiple years.

Everything from fake tournament votes to impersonation of Steam/Valve employees or support. A lot of these scams are entirely based on pressuring the 'victim' into complying.

I'd highly recommend that anybody worried about such things become familiar with common scams and keep their accounts secure on Steam or any other platforms.

Unfortunately posting for awareness never works, However at least YOU are now more aware of such things and hopefully are prepared to avoid them in the future...

We all know it’s well known. OP is just trying to notify people that this is happening.

The people OP is trying to warn don't read the forums.

The "Vote for my team" variants of the phishing scam link has been going around for over a decade.

Nothing new here.

That's clearly wrong and you know that very well.

Someone managed to get into my account 2 days ago, (even with two methods of accessing with steamapp); and managed to buy stuff on Dota 2. A game I never played. I contacted support and they said there was nothing they can do to get refunded and blamed microsoft and other random issues. Has anyone else encountered this before?? I removed my ccc/debit card, changed passwords, have malebytes on. I checked BBB and saw many reports like this about Steam which shocked me including on FTC. I am more baffled that Steam just did not care as much about it, did not escalate the issue to higher ups!!

Account security is your responsibility.

Can't say I am shocked that people who have allowed their accounts to become compromised would boast about it on the bbb.
