tbh, if people still fall for that trick, they deserve it.
interesting never knew that. Dont use steam much and i recently moved from console to pc
The other 1% usually posts in here after they have fallen for such things, or when they try to warn people about one.
Unfortunately the 1% which post here after that is the 99% of people who never use the discussions pages at all or get no attention to common scams/phishing from other sources.
Everything from fake tournament votes to impersonation of Steam/Valve employees or support. A lot of these scams are entirely based on pressuring the 'victim' into complying.
I'd highly recommend that anybody worried about such things become familiar with common scams and keep their accounts secure on Steam or any other platforms.

Unfortunately posting for awareness never works, However at least YOU are now more aware of such things and hopefully are prepared to avoid them in the future...
